Someone said something about Baguely upgrades? It says TBC on the homepage, has anyone had these yet?

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

Just a quick reminder to anyone thinking about posting asking where their speed upgrade is, the speed upgrade does not normally occur without a reboot of the modem (power it off for a few seconds and then back on) and then see if you've received your upgrade

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

Stockport (SK3) is done. my speed test is as follows:

Thu, 31 Jul 2008 04:02:00 UTC

Test 1: 1024K took 826 ms = 1239.7 KB/sec, approx 10215 Kbps, 9.98 Mbps
Test 2: 1024K took 842 ms = 1216.2 KB/sec, approx 10021 Kbps, 9.79 Mbps
Test 3: 1024K took 827 ms = 1238.2 KB/sec, approx 10203 Kbps, 9.96 Mbps
Test 4: 2048K took 1700 ms = 1204.7 KB/sec, approx 9927 Kbps, 9.69 Mbps

Overall Average Speed = approx 10092 Kbps, 9.86 Mbps

I had a chat with a friend who's pretty much a pc techician, id rebooted the modem a couple of times. turns out for the last 3 years since ive had broadband from ntl/virgin id been using the USB cable from the modem to my pc. USB i think only goes upto about 6MB (or in that region), so i changed USB lead for Ethernet lead and it fixed the problem hehehe (oops)..never ever thought about using the spare ethernet lead i had as was always getting a steady 4MB..learn something new everyday lol..

But aren't some people just getting confused with what is classed as Baguley and what is classed as Manchester? For example, Stockport comes under Manchester on the Virgin 'Where's my upgrade?' page...and Manchester IS flagged as 'July'. Baguley, on the other hand, is still flagged as 'TBC'. Are some people just assuming they're served from NTL Baguley servers based on their proximity to the area of Baguley? I am definitely served from Baguley (I am M14), as when I do tracerts or 'Who Is' type searches on my IP address, it actually says bagu-cache-X.server.ntli.net, which means I am served by Baguley....and unfortunately I'm very much still stuck on 4MB (I've checked the modem config page.....and yes, I have rebooted/powered down/powered up several times.)

The more I think about it, the more I suspect this is what is happening here - as much as I would like to believe Baguley is in the process of the upgrade, I am very doubtful. I mean, just how sure are the people here claiming 10MB that they are in fact fed from Baguley servers and not Manchester servers....servers we actually *know* are being updated in July?

But when you do a tracert (click 'Start' - click 'Run' - type "cmd" hit enter - type "tracert bbc.co.uk" in the DOS box and hit enter), does it actually confirm you're on baguley servers? It should say something like 'bagu-t2cam1-v126-network.virginmedia.net' on one of the lines of information. I mean know you're actually in or near Baguley, but that isn't the same as being served by Baguley.... You could be on a Manchester server - it is a complex network.

You see, there are people in this thread claiming Baguley has been upgraded because they're in Stockport and on 10MB, when Stockport is classed as a Manchester server on the 'where's my upgrade' page. Yet there are several people like myself in this thread, who *know* we're on Baguley servers, and we're definitely still on 4MB. Doing a tracert will help us get to the bottom of this discrepancy and I for one would appreciate it. Thanks.

---------- Post added at 06:01 ---------- Previous post was at 05:28 ----------

If the folks saying they're on Baguley UBR's and getting 10MB could go to here http://tools.virginmedia.com/ and confirm they're actually on baguley UBR's, I'd appreciate it. A lot of people with this upgrade could well be served from Manchester UBR's. As there are a lot of us in the thread that are definitely on baguley that are 4MB still. Manchester is down for July, Baguley is TBC.....I'm still not sure that this isn't UBR/location confusion.

For example, going off http://tools.virginmedia.com/ I am classed as 'cpc3-with2-0-0-custXXX.bagu.cable.ntl.com', and the modem config after a reboot says:

Network Access : Allowed
Maximum Downstream Data Rate : 4096000
Maximum Upstream Data Rate : 400000
Maximum Upstream Channel Burst : 1600
Modem Capability : Concatenation Enabled, Fragmentation Disabled, PHS Disabled
Maximum Number of CPEs : 1

This doesn't add up for me until I see information similar to what I've posted here showing that the UBR is Baguley, and the config page says 10MB. Although I hope I'm wrong, and it would be nice to be proven wrong.

Me too, but before I rebooted the modem said 4Mb and showed the previous software upgrade file. I needed to reset the modem to get 10Mb, it was not doing it if I just left it running (which I do, all the time).

It was good while it lasted, not been downloading, just a little browsing this PM, down to 200kb, speed test shows it uploading at approx 300kb!, seems that STM kicks in at very low MB!!

Just wonder if it was worth it to surf at what I believe is nearer to 2MB than 10MB

Re: Virgin 4Mb to upgrade to 10Mb February - Summer

Once someone from Stoke gets upgraded, then we'll know for sure that Baguley is done. So far my 120 modem is still showing 4mb. It has started crashing again recently, so something may be happening...or it could be mucked up

Not as bad as first appeared after all!

The Maidenhead Speedtest server (the recommended one) seems to be overloaded, getting better on London server 9946kb/s DL 378kb/s UL

I did this. I got 2 Baguley hits, but also got a few time outs and some other stuff (gfd? redb?).

" 3 5 ms 7 ms 6 ms bagu-t2cam1-a-ge92.network.virginmedia.net
4 7 ms 15 ms 8 ms bagu-t3core-1a-ae2-0.network.virginmedia.net "
