To be honest as for as much as I have had more than our fair share of contract or not issues lol. In this case if it's a new customer in there first contract as I get the impression to be the case?. Then any new customer would not be offered any contract of less than a 12 month period for the first time?.
If however it's been a change of services after a minimum period and you were then on a regular price than a offer price then they really cant charge more than a months fee to cover the cost of a months notice unless they have evidence of you agreeing or signing for a minimum period.
