Do I have to set anything up on my laptop first or what? Any and all help will be appreciated.

RJ11-broadband-master-plug<===>Belkin-Wireless-Router&Modem
your laptop-wireless-card1<--->BWR&M
grandson-wireless-card2<--->BWR&M
hmmm, so assuming the BWR&M has an IP of say 192.168.0.1
your machine has an IP 192.168.0.2
grandson's machine has an IP of 192.168.0.3
can your machine ping both 192.168.0.1 and gandad's 192.168.0.3
can grandson's machine ping 192.168.0.1 and your 192.168.0.2
can you both get into the routers internal web server page (whatever thats set to?).
can you currently browse the web, but he cant?.
what does both
ipconfig /all show?.
when you say '
it can see my network'what do you mean exactly?, he can see your shared drives on your laptop, and you can see his shared drives on your laptop but he cant get to the web yet perhaps?.
