I find it odd that Motorola would provide a built-in webpage-like config... thingy [technical term ] for the 3100, but not the 4100.

Have you tried:
http://192.168.100.1/

Then again, as far as I can see, my 3100 doesn't list what speed it's set to, so if your 4100 just shows the same stuff it won't provide the info you want.

Re: Ntl to reduce upload speed on 10mb

The 4100 has a diagnostic page just like the 3100 does - I had a 4100 when i lived in a Telewest area and was always looking at the diag page (had some issues early on)

Re: Ntl to reduce upload speed on 10mb

On the 4100 if you go to 192.168.100.1 and click on logs you'll see 4 columns, one of these is labelled code.Look for E102.0 and you should see something like this in the message column
SW Download INIT - Via Config file cm-10240-384
I'm with BY and am used to the 384 upload, was rather hoping that we'd get the NTL 512 but seems they're going the other way on this.
What surprises me tho,if it's true,is the timing...why do it now when it means taking something away from your customers which is bound to upset more than a few people.Surely,if the rumoured upgrades are true, that would be the time to do it....put the 10meg on the 20/768 that BY has trialled. That way you'd be complaining that you weren't given as much, for free, that you'd expected or hoped for.A totally different scenario and ,in my opinion,no real justification for a complaint

Was talking about this today to an NTL employee...

Apparently they are altering the speeds so 20mbit can have 512k up!

And these are also the same upload speeds TW users have...i guess they want the same all across?

If it is true, you would imagine they would increase Telewest's upload, rather than decrease Ntl's

Re: Ntl to reduce upload speed on 10mb

mine's still on 512k jus chked config!

but currently it doesnt matter what speeds u have with ntl, as they are never upto wat they are configured to anyway! so i guess this will only affect ppl that are actually getting the advertised speeds!

Remember you should not bash other members of forums.

And i recognise your addy, funnily from what i remember your the one banned from a few efnet channels for starting lies and spreading bull rumours...yes?

Anyways...my upload is set at 512k but i've been struggling to get over 30kb/s for a few weeks now, but im guessing thats due to nottinghams upload bandwith being saturated like hell (ntl have admitted this)

And im pretty sure the site is just a typo...at least, im hoping so.

If not, then i would be off to be, i need that upload (the slow down has practically stopped my gaming as of late)

Re: Ntl to reduce upload speed on 10mb

I know the 4100 has a diag page, it just doesn't show the upload/download speeds, i do see this a lot in the log:

Code:
061210115226 7-Information H501.6HFC: TRC SYNC Recovery OK
061210115224 3-Critical H501.4HFC: LOST TRC SYNC- trying to recover
061210115224 7-Information H501.12HFC: FEC LOCK recovery OK
061210115224 3-Critical T5.0SYNC Timing Synchronization failure - Loss of Sync
But can't see the E102.0 entry mentioned.

10Mb broadband Upload Speed (Kbps) 384

Let's hope its just a trial and they won't lower the uploads.

Just rebooted my modem and i haven't been downgraded yet.
now that would be a significant change , now as its in the 2mbit users favour , the users let that slide, however the other way around and your within your rights as regards the T&C and involve the (small claims,)courts if you so wish...

I am on 10mb and I game alot on Battlefield 2142, and my partner uses MSN and Yahoo and some chatrooms, my ping then is about 70 or 80, without her using the net I drop to about 20-40.

Now your going to drop my upload on 10mb? let me tell you now NTL you do this and that £35 per month will be shoved so far up your **** you will be spitting my sacm from your nasal passages.

I expect at least 512k upload on 10mb and I will not pay more to you to get more you thieving robbing swines, your network is falling to pieces and your talking about 20mb?

Sort your network out and listen to the customers not your accountants.

of course the NTL users can also use the T&C to get out of the contract, or even take NTL to small claims court for breach if they so wish (as is your right under consumer law).

and if this significant change were to find its way to the Virgin Media towers and become fact rather than rumour, then id assume theregister.co.uk and all the other broadband news agencys would be interested in the users thoughts and wishes.

i assume someone has dropped mike or tony ,perhaps one of the other lads there a note to look into this for a news report if its required for a nice topical cristmas scrooge story....

its also possible that the TW users could also make news for not being given the current higher NTL upload rate yet paying the same rates.

also the point about your average downloader NOT careing about it, that might be true, however thats ONLY
because they dont know the reasons.

if the main web news sites were to explain the fact the if your uploads rate go down your gaming suffers directly because of that reduction, im sure as hell that THEY WOULD CARE and kick up a stink and perhaps we might see better ratio offers in time as the complaints role in.

ps.
it appears the ntl have moved the standard NTL T&C and tidyed up that page to give links pages.

the t&c was here in full

now its here
