Re: disconnections

Another customer with a NTL silver 100 modem with the rebooting problems. Think I've counted about 20 people so far with the same modem and same problems.
In the majority of cases, where the customer has had their 100 replaced with a new 'blue' 250 the problem has gone away.

Re: disconnections

Been on the phone to CS and TS all day.
Finally convinced them that, no restarting my computer wasn't going to solve the problem, and managed to get an Engineer visiting tommorow "around 1-5" to "Check the connection"

Just gotta hope that he actually listens and replaces modem, i may have to show him this forum

From what i've heard though, most people seem to have got the modem when they requested it, so i have high hopes mine will be replaced.

Fingers crossed

Might be worth adding, i specifically requested a 250 , to which the reply was "NTL now only distribute the 250, so that's what you will get" , if that's worth anything to anyone.

Re: disconnections

I've got exactly the same problem. Just phoned tech support from my mobile as we dont have an ntl land line.

The tech support person tried to convince me that rebooting the pc and modem will fix my problem which I kindly questioned until I realised I was getting nowhere.

I was asked to call back when my connection is down again.

I've got an ntl:home 100 modem. The sync and ready lights are constantly flashing when the connection is offline.

Code:
Downstream Receive Power Level : 14.75 dBmv
Downstream SNR : 33.63 dB
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 41.00 dBmv
Not happy. Can someone from ntl help???

Quote:
1)What, specifically, is your issue?
Cable modem dropping connection.

a) Is there a specific time that this issue is most prevalent?
Anytime of the day or night.

b) How long has this issue been going on? (days, weeks, months etc)
Months, but it's getting more and more annoying.

2) Do you have cable TV? If so, is there any reception degradation?
No ntl TV or any other services.

3) Have you contacted customer support about this problem? If so, what did they say?
Phoned tech support, tried rebooting all the equipment which ***temporarily*** allowed the modem to get a connection. But it is still dropping out every now and then.

4) What troubleshooting steps have you taken to resolve this problem? (aka: if you haven't tried to help yourself, why should *we* help you?)
Looks to me like its a power issue, not much I can do?

5 Who you are and what you have
a) Where in the country are you?
Wiltshire
b) What is your operating system?
XP
c) What is your home network setup? Provide details.
Linksys Wireless Router (BEFW11S4)
d) If you have more than one computer, is the problem occuring on all other machines?
Yes, the cable modem is loosing connection affecting all machines.
e) Are you running a firewall of any sort? Have you ever installed one? Did you try to turn it off during troubleshooting?
N/A

Just got off the phone with tech support for the 3rd time tonight - the kind lady has scheduled an engineer to come out for monday.

Re: disconnections

NTL Tech just been and gone, with a nice new 250 modem. The guy was compeltely oblivious to the problem which i told him about, and says he will "spread the word".

I have now gone from 6-7mb to 9.5-10mb consistently from FTPs.

This seems to solve the problem! (my download off mirror.ac.uk is on 1150kb/s)

Demand a new modem people, seems to sort it.

Re: disconnections

Job done: Though it cost me £6.50 in phone calls!

Downstream Receive Power Level : -0.17 dBmv
Downstream SNR : 33.74 dB
Upstream Transmit Power Level : 39.00 dBmv

and I quote: "It shouldn't have worked atall before now."

Re: disconnections

Well, its still broken & constantly dropping offline.

After numerous phone calls ntl are coming out friday with a new modem. All we do is browse the web so its not crapping out under load + we're only on the 1meg service.

But if its not the modem then Im sure they'll have fun trying to work out what it is. Though it'll probably cost me even more in phone calls.

Re: disconnections

Two ntl guys came out today, they couldn't find a fault from the road to our house so they gave us a new modem (ntlhome 250). Seems ok so far, probably cost me £10 in phone calls to tech support though. :/

Unhappy Re: disconnections

I wish to thank everyone in this post as it has pointed out the problem I have been having for some time. The modem randomly droping connection (TJ210), however the tech line are compltely useless as all they kept doig was turning my firewall of (idiots do they not know).

I feel another pointless phone call coming up, unless some nice usefull mod may be able to help i really dont rellish the idea of phoneing those idiots again for them to turn my firewall of again!!!!!!!!

oh the joys of being with NTL
