Re: Set Topbox Really Cool

There are no fans in there. Changes were made to the hardware from to the 4001 box to make it run cooler among other things and alas, the 4010 box was born

Yeah they have slightly more memory than the 4001 which should make things run a little better - but with the current software you wouldn't be able to tell.

THey do have a downside though. They lack and analogue pass-through. These devices allow people with poor house ariels to take channels 1-5 for cable. Fortuantley an NTL engineer can fit an external passthrough to combat that problem

Unfortunately thats an annoying thing that Samsungs do for some reason. I would explain it myself but I don't think I would explain it very well.

There are currently some very annoying bugs with the Samsung box which need to be ironed out before I can say I'm really glad I own one.

I would love to have my Pace back, if only the return path wasn't knackered

Actually, the 4010 was born out of an effort by Pace to make a box that could work on all three cable networks in the UK -- it's practically identical to the 4000s used on Bromley and Telewest.

It uses a different chipset to the 4001 (except possibly the NC, I'm not sure), has a faster processor and more memory.

In fact, the internals of the 4010/4000s are almost exactly the same as the Samsungs, except that the latter have a separate modem, whereas the Pace boxes use the one CPU for everything.

Ah both have more than one tuner but dead right 1 CPU in Pace boxen and 2 in Samsungs.
