Virgin Media O2 to axe thousands of jobs

Looks like i will be one of those as i will take voluntary redundancy should it be offered. I was expecting to retire next year anyway.

How many years have you worked for VM on the same contract?

Total time is 34 years however i was made redundant from NTL 21 years ago and then was hired back 12 months later and just made it back still on a NTL contract, therefor 20 years since. i will get a decent payout due to my job roll and pay scale should i be successful for voluntary redundancy

If they make you redundant you're looking at a legal minimum of 1.5 weeks salary for every year(over the age of 40) and 1 weeks pay under 40 you have been there so works out pretty good for you especially if it's early 2027 you planned to retire.

Edit

Apparently the maximum total statutory redundancy pay you can receive is £22,530 I didn't realise it was capped, but I guess they may boost it for voluntary.

Just like the old days isn’t it Sirius? Every October you’d get put on 90days consulting period.

Makes me all nostalgic!

Always interesting to see where they intend to trim the fat.

Very nice it's perfect timing for you unless they screw you over when you want to take it.

Are they closing your whole office/division?

Re: Virgin Media O2 to axe thousands of jobs

i remember the several rounds of redundancies, in my 17 years with ntl/virgin
when i look back i wish i had taken redundancy because as an ex employee i just don't think the company is worth the effort the workforce puts in

Re: Virgin Media O2 to axe thousands of jobs

They're in debt, and losing customers.

Rather than sacking staff maybe they should consider why they are losing customers? The worst CS, and ripping off 'loyal' customers?

Closing down the customer support forum ( with pretence of an 'upgrade') was an excellent start, not.

The customers are low priority, thats why they are in trouble.

and it's got nothing to do with Altnets selling their services as a loss leader, massively undercutting VMO2.

However, this is a bit of theatre I think.

This is VMO2 putting pressure on the CMA to greenlight the netomnia deal. The Openreach story which see a reduction in competition, the opposite of what the CMA want to achieve. Now massive job cuts because the netomnia deal would have seen a cash injection into VMO2 and LG & Telefonica could probably use some accountancy slight of hand to transfer some the debt to Nexfibre. 4000 job losses not a good headline for the government, who might be inclined to lean on the CMA, as seen as they intervened in regards to Talk Talk.

I have been on leave today. I did have a chat with one of my colleagues who was in work today and the silence is deafening he said.
