Never heard of HFCEVs, I had to look that up (Basically Hydrogen fuelled cars).

Whole days must simply be a blur if you get a large brandy every time you lose interest in something on here

It's a marvelous life mate, I can even walk into a shop and buy a bottle without needing to show any ID or give them all my personal info.

Anyway, there's usually something of interest on here, apart from most of the TV stuff which I ignore *hic*

I’m a little confused by this, so a pure electric vehicle with no emissions at all, and a hydrogen powered car*, where the emission is basically water vapour, pay twice that of a plug-in hybrid, which does have a conventional ICE, albeit one tuned to best efficiency?

That seems to be the wrong way round to me.

* probably, overall the ‘cleanest’ way but completely hampered by the lack of infrastructure.

A hybrid already pays the standard VED.

Re: National Budget 2026

As usual, give with one hand, take with the other.

£100 towards energy, nice.

Standing charge on gas to be replaced with a higher unit cost.
So if you heat you home with gas (as most do) you'll pay more.
If you also cook with gas, you're really being screwed.

Oh, and dont bother saving anymore, they'll be taxing that even more.

Re: National Budget 2026

i don't have central heating just gas boiler for hot water and 4 burner hob

my quarterly gas bill is around £50 ,half of it is standing charge

i use a fair chunk of electric [oven/ 2x air fryer and 2x microwave ] tv's etc

and a huge chunk of iron [stove] powered by coal

Re: National Budget 2026

A £100 one off 'energy' payment probably means I can have the heating on for an extra 20 minutes every day (or 40 minutes just during the colder months).

It's a nice gesture, but I have a feeling many won't bother using it for any energy costs . . . apart from possibly petrol . . . or alcohol

Re: National Budget 2026

The tax on booze will rise by a record-breaking 4.55% in February in line with Retail Prices Index (RPI) inflation.
3p to the cost of a pint of beer.
14p to 18p in duty on a bottle of wine, depending on its strength.
49p on a standard 70cl bottle of 37.5% ABV spirit.
