from my house to town would be £3 but i have a bus pass ,when i was a teenager it was 2p
when i was 18 i worked in hull for 6 months the bus fare was 5p [local bus] from near guest house to work place it was quite a journey
i think public transport costs are way too high today but then i don't have to pay anymore

The odd trip here and there is fine and acceptable. But having to rely on buses every day and it's now close to £900 a year and when there's no other choice but to pay then yeah it's a rip off. When it was under £600 2-3 years ago.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates
If you work 5 days a week, and have 5 weeks holiday, plus bank holidays then 52x5-33 = £681 per year, not a rip off at all. In 2027 it will be £454.

Is that including the daily return fare as well? And travel at the weekends and during holiday time?

it is nearly £1400 a year when you consider return fares
Or as it has gone to statistics it is 5.6% of someone working 39 hours per week on minimum wage

Re: Moans and Pet Hates
As it stands here, it's £2.40 a single fare or £4.60 a day pass. Without the passes it would be £1044.20 a year.
Next year the price of the single will be £2 so will be £4 daily. So £908 (Extra if you use the bus in your holiday/weekends)
2-3 years ago a yearly pass (using the app) was £580 and £600 online. Which then went up to £650 last year.
This year they've scrapped the yearly pass and now penalising workers that rely on the bus to get to and from work. The best choice now is a new 3 monthly pass at £215 so a year now would be £860. So quite a jump from £650 to £860 in just a year.

Re: Moans and Pet Hates
Instead of shooting for the moon and beyond, we should be putting all our brains and technology resources into teleportation.
Imagine how much that would help people and the planet

that kind of money would fund a moped then you don't need to rely on busses

Re: Moans and Pet Hates
I heard nothing about this until a radio report this morning.
The Minimum Unit Price for alcohol in Wales has been increased from 50p per unit to 65p per unit.
A 500ml can of beer or cider will rise from £1 to at least £1.30.
A 70cl bottle of 12% wine will rise from £4.20 to at least £5.46.
A litre bottle of 40% spirits will rise from £20 to at least £26.
The extra money was supposed to go into the pockets of "small shop owners". But it is going to the brewers, distillers, wholesalers and distributors. And it attracts extra VAT of course.
The 65p MUP was introduced in Scotland in September 2024. In 2025, there were 1,133 drug use deaths registered in Scotland, marking an 11% increase from the previous year and maintaining the highest fatality rate in Europe.
