cancel contract 5 months in

My stepson is moving a new place and realised VM don't supply a connect to the address.

He signed up to a new contract 5 months ago. Will VM hold him to contract if he cancels or do they charge a partial leaving fee and if so what is this usually?

Please see https://news.virginmediao2.co.uk/vir...t-home-movers/

If the new address isn't overseas and he provides VM with proof of him residing at the new address that they cant service then, then VM will refund the early termination fees.

The accepted documents are :-
Bank statement, mortgage information, rental agreement, driving licence, insurance pollicy, or utility bill.

They can be emailed to homemovers@virginmedia.co.uk or send paper copies to Virgin Media Sunderland SR43 4AA.

Re: cancel contract 5 months in

I personally would cancel the direct debit and not pay . I would not be waiting on a refund

That can easily be contested once the contract is ended. Not everyone Hugh has 19 months worth of subs spare and a bounced direct debit or unauthorised overdraft will do more damage than a default that gets corrected within a short period of time. It would not even be registered as a debt in the time it takes imo

Even on a £30 a month tariff it is over £500 ...

I wouldn't deal with the stress of fixing that very well so I also wouldn't cancel my direct debit, I like a stress free life.

Re: cancel contract 5 months in

It would stress me out worse having to wait for someone to give me my money back. And VM are a shower so would not give them the chance.

Last year when I cancelled VM, I returned my kit but VM took so long to acknowledge it was returned to the warehouse I got billed for it and I wasn't prepared to just cancel a direct debit as that is the worst thing someone can do for services. Luckily they acknowledged just before the money was taken because I wouldn't be able to handle phoning that terrible company up as I hate phones for things like this, this was the reason I never phoned to negotiate a new contract.
