VM lose nearly 400,000 mobile customers

Quote:
Virgin Media O2 has issued a warning regarding anticipated declines in sales and earnings for 2026, following significant customer attrition attributed to recent price increases.

The telecoms giant reported a net loss of 397,500 mobile subscribers last year, with a substantial 164,800 departing in the final quarter, primarily due to O2’s price adjustments.

Last October, the company announced a further monthly increase of £2.50 for its 15.6 million mobile customers, effective from spring 2026, revising an earlier proposed rise of £1.80.

Concurrently, Virgin Media O2 saw 138,400 broadband customers leave in 2025, including 16,700 in the last three months of the year.

for the moment

My contract is up in May, seriously considering the big move elsewhere.
Just need to start working out if her indoors can get what she watches on subscription channels . . and a quick blast of BT internet, probably much cheaper than the VM deal

Well its not going to change unless you can go back in time.

It also notes (as well) that "138,400 broadband customers leave in 2025". I was one of them.

Mine is also up in May and the price will be just over double afterwards unless I "do the dance". However, as usual I'll be leaving and may return when the "price is right"
I had been with VM for many, many years as there was no competition. Once Openreach arrived, I now have lots of choice ...

I renewed my deal online mid-January (I was automatically offered £14 off my current price on the website (under "offers for you") as the current contract ended mid-February) - I’ll be paying less for the next two years than I paid previously.

I had priced up the alternatives, and Sky came out at roughly the same price as my renewal price, and as my wife knows how to use the V6 box, we stayed with VM to minimise the hassle factor for her.

I got a much better price than the website renewal was offering by ringing retentions. Didn't even have to threaten to leave. Now is a good time to get a deal out of VM, given they are leaking customers.

I was already on a 30% reduction from standard package rate (from previous renewal negotiations), so I was happy with the deal we got (that matched what I would be paying Sky) without the hassle to save a quid or two…
