Looking at the their map BRSK doesn't cover much area.

It looks like anything that uses openreach is live but I'm interested in City fibre which may give fast speeds(not that I need it) and seems cheaper.

Do openreach use cityfibres ducks and cables because I believe cityfibre were the ones digging up the village?

I've checked loads of companies and there maximum is 900Mbps but I checked EE and they say 1.6Gbps is available so I'm not sure how accurate this is.

It'll be accurate, Openreach can go up to 1800/120 Mbps, but not everyone offers the higher speeds, IDNet offer it (but call it 1700 for some reason).

Thanks, I'm hoping when I order sometime in January Cityfibre will be live which seems to have better speeds at cheaper prices, I'll be happy to ditch VM for everything and have better opportunity to easily switch between providers without faffing around.

Re: FTTP who to buy it from - Recommendations please

Cityfibre would be the better choice if its live, as its usually cheaper for the same speed, and symmetrical upload/download.

As I posted in another thread, Netomnia have indicated they plan to install FTTP around here, which will give me access to the same kind of speed deals.

Re: FTTP who to buy it from - Recommendations please

I really wish Cityfibre would have better updates, all I have is it's planned and I know they laid the trunking in the village.

I like the idea of 2200Mbps up and down for £56 a month even if I don't need it!

Come January I guess I'll end up with Openreach and likely Zen because I don't want to go with Sky even though it's far cheaper currently.

It might be worth finding out who offers modem mode linking a router of your own choice.

I guess, but I likely wouldn't need anything fancy but if there was issues with IPTV I would expect to be able to go into the provided modem settings and be able to disable them.

I'll be saving a fortune by ditching everything VM(my fault for not renegotiating the contract though).

Roll on January!

Re: FTTP who to buy it from - Recommendations please

Question would be if provider provided kit is better than third party

I've always been happy with VMs equipment so if they do the exact same job as that without issues I won't need anything else I hope.

"Modem mode" is more of a Cable BB concept.
FTTP normally uses PPPoE connections, which pretty much any router can do.

Modem mode as you know turns a cable router into just a modem FTTP installs gives you a Modem which can then be distributed using any switch which essentially your Hub becomes when you use the Wan port . I know you know this but I am just simplifying it
