Sleepy Joe did not actually agree with it, but stopped short of actually preventing her.
I completely fail to see the point of it, other than to annoy the Chinese, which seems dumb.

BREAKING: BEIJING, Aug 5 (Reuters) - China has decided to sanction U.S. House of Representatives Speaker Nancy Pelosi and her immediate family in response to her "vicious" and "provocative" actions, the Chinese foreign ministry said on Friday.
"Despite China's serious concerns and firm opposition, Pelosi insisted on visiting Taiwan, seriously interfering in China's internal affairs, undermining China's sovereignty and territorial integrity, trampling on the one-China policy, and threatening the peace and stability of the Taiwan Strait," a ministry spokesperson said in a statement. - Reuters News Agency.

China "won" HK not because they didn't get it back as an entity but because they have managed to slowly remove freedoms and make it more like the mainland.

Let us keep appeasing these thugs shall we... Taiwan never belonged to China but to Imperial China if anything... How dare they attack an 82 year old woman... The ultimate defence weapon would be to have nukes placed secretly on Taiwan if they were invaded by thousands of Chinese robot troops and their leader. BOOM! blow the lot sky high if the Taiwanese cannot live in peace then the Communist will not have it either. Drastic I know.

Hong Kong was “returned” to China as per the agreement. What China does with it after that is their business.

		| Beijing’s imposition of new rules disqualifying opposition legislators in Hong Kong constitutes a breach of legally binding international commitments, the UK foreign secretary, Dominic Raab, has said.
Raab said the move represented a “clear breach” of the Sino-British joint declaration, which was supposed to guarantee Hong Kong a high degree of autonomy under Chinese rule.

In a statement, Raab said the UK would work with allies to hold the Chinese government to its obligations under international law.

“China has once again broken its promises and undermined Hong Kong’s high degree of autonomy,” said Raab.

		| The UK now considers Beijing to be in a state of ongoing non-compliance with the Sino-British Joint Declaration,” the foreign ministry said in a statement.
The treaty was signed before Britain handed Hong Kong back to China in 1997 and was designed to allay fears about its future under Beijing’s rule.

It guarantees the financial hub special status including a high degree of autonomy to manage its own affairs and the right to freedom of speech.

But British Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab said that Beijing’s decision “to impose radical changes to restrict participation in Hong Kong’s electoral system” was a “further clear breach” of the agreement.

China is just flexing, the issue is if it did turn into a "Ukraine" would the US have to go it alone or would they have the support of NATO? Would the US even bother to get involved?

It their sovereign territory and they won’t have a third party dictate to them what they can do on it.

Parallels could possibly be drawn here.

 | We've not got as bad as dishonouring international agreements as China, but I agree we're heading in that direction. I'm nonetheless hopeful that we will prove more sensible and not go down that route.
