Re: Virgin Media UK Confirms Trial of Faster Broadband Upload Speeds
Do we think they'd need more than 2 upstreams to do this? My area is 16 down, and never noticed any congestion on the downstream and doesn't struggle to hit the 300meg but a lot of the time it struggles to reach more than 15meg on the upstream...
EDIT: I'm on the homeworks+ package

I agree, i would rather see STM removed before they introduce faster uploads.

Probably wrong but 2 upstream can do 40 meg? Someone will probably correct me.
Correction 4 upstream can theoretically do 122 meg so that would be 30.5 per channel so 61 for 2 upstream in theory.

Ah I see, thanks. Maybe it's upstream congestion in my area then. Is that possible if there's no sign of any downstream?

I could tell you the score but then I'd have to kill you.
For what it's worth, though, the same upgrades that would remove spectrum restrictions and allow more upstream channels have been necessary anyway to allow for more DOCSIS downstreams and TV channels.

Just being doing some work in my local headend and was pleased to see some E6000s being installed, so my house will be connected to one in the near future

Fair enough so reading between the lines there, I'm guessing since my area has 16 ds channels it's already capable of more us, just needs a config change?
Vauge nudges in the general right direction appreciated

Quite a lot of people seen 3 (And I think even occasionally 4?) Upstreams being locked last year, just before that guest wireless thing was trialled (And subsequently binned off), so hopefully a lot of the work has been done and, as you say, you just need a new config file.

Let's hope it is. I'm happy with a solid 70mbs download but 5 Mbs up is a pain when you need to move larger files.

Re: Virgin Media UK Confirms Trial of Faster Broadband Upload Speeds
I wouldn't hold my breath. All they are doing is trialling it atm which is completely unnecessary because they can slap together 3 bonded channels in a jiffy because they have already got that in place from the work they did last year. Once again it will be a PR stint to give the impression that they are keeping up with the competition.
They are way behind on the downstream upgrades atm and my crystal ball tells me that they'll finish them this year, early next year they'll announce the upstream upgrade rollout (to make it sound like we getting another upgrade for free) which will bring us back to 10:1 and by the time they have finished that they'll be announcing the next round of downstream upgrades/docsis3.1 rollout which will involve downstream only upgrades and undo everything they have just achieved in making brining everyone up to 10:1.

Re: Virgin Media UK Confirms Trial of Faster Broadband Upload Speeds
Yeah PR stunt, nearly 18 months ago I was told I would be getting a free speed upgrade to 200mbs, that was planned for last September, then October, then this March, then April now it is May next year, this week I have been sent 2 emails saying I can have the 200mbs now for an extra £6.50 a month, now I'm not really good at maths but I have been trying to subtract £6.50 from zero and I am getting stuck.
