Thanks for the link; I read that as no longer free to BT subscribers who currently receive it as part of BT broadband, I'm not sure we can read into that being the case with VM as VM has always stated as being included, not free on the old XL and latterly by big Kahuna, there is still one year left of current deal as well to consider

Not sure there is appetite yet for 4k just yet, would take a whole new round of investment by consumers in hardware who have only just got round to HD, the price of TV with 4k needs to come down abut more; it is slowly going that way I agree but not just yet.

I would imagine it would also need some serious hardware investment by broadcasters

Yes that's how I read it , free option for BT BB users with an additional fee for CL games.

If the VM deal for BT Sport currently inclusive in XL TV also included the Champions League coverage from next season this would be a real selling point for VM.

I realise the article doesn't mention this and I'd imagine this will be another late decision like last time , BT will surely try and attract as many sub's to its own BB and TV products before agreeing wholesale agreements.

BT have already said they'll have BT Sport 4K content surely this will force Sky's arm.

we don't get Sky Atlantic, Sky 3D or Sky Poker! Nor do we get Sky Store.

Not sure if there's anything else from Sky that we don't get now.

Sky Poker has closed and Sky 3d is closing. Sky store is available on the now tv box which you can pick up for about £7 on ebay if you really wanted that.

There are a number of other linear channels we don't currently get on VM compared to Sky. Including ITV Encore and numerous HD variants. Yet, VM charge a similar amount to Sky for their packages.

You can argue BT sport makes a difference on the XL package, but that only makes a difference if you like sports. Plus anyone on Sky who wants BT sport free can get BT BB.

You can add Surround Sound on most progs plus a massive range of box sets on demand. Catch up is also poor by comparison.

That's right, Harry. My response was related only to the Sky branded channels. I hadn't realised that Sky Poker had closed, though!

But then how can you compare Sky to Netflix your not just paying Sky or VM for just the Sky branded channels.

You've only got to look at the range of programming available on Netflix compared with the Sky branded channels, MM, which is what I was referring to.

Once you've done that, compare what is available on each with what you are actually likely to watch!

The number of programmes I'm recording from the Sky channels has diminished considerably over the last year or so. There's just nothing on worth watching, whereas I have a huge number of programmes lined up in 'My List' on Netflix, which only costs £5.99.

The picture doesn't really change if you factor in Sky Atlantic, by the way. Not much on there either at the moment.

It's a no-brainer really, unless it's the sport you are after, which doesn't interest me at all.

Your still missing the point a VM or Sky subscription gets you a lot more than just the Sky channels , they're is easily more content available over the course of a year on traditional pay TV whether it resonates with you is down to individual taste.

Why do you pay VM then if Netflix has a far greater selection ?

I wasn't talking about the Sky multi channel package, just the Sky channels.

To be honest, there appear to be more programmes to choose from on the terrestrials at present.

I acknowledge that I am paying over the odds when you look at the use I am making of the non-terrestrial linear TV channels, but this is so that I get as much choice as possible. However, I think pay TV is pretty poor value for money when compared with Freeview.

I'm pretty certain MM did not confine his question to sky branded channels only though. You missed out quite a large chunk of what Sky offers in comparison to VM.

So a pointless comparison , considering most peoples packages include many more channels.

And yet you pay for the XL TV package despite there being very little on.

So you pay in excess of £30 a month for the XL pack despite hardly watching any of the pay content just so you have choice , again baffling especially considering you love to educate us on the death of linear and the strengths of streaming services.
