Re: Email DNS issue
I would advise ANYONE using an ISP email to switch to a public service like gmail or outlook.com. It's not worth the hassle, especially if you need to switch ISP's. Do it now while you've got time to migrate your contacts and such, don't leave it until said ISP pulls the rug from under your feet.

Agreed. Even if you never plan on switching ISPs you may be forced to through factors you have no control over.
Personally I got a bit complacent when my NTLWorld email kept working for six years after I left VM, but even then I'd already deliberately used it for the minimum possible (e.g. an obnoxious few websites that refuse to accept public email services)

Ugh, I hate it when sites refuse gmail addresses and such. Then again, I also recommend having a domain name and forwarding email from that to your hosted email elsewhere.

Re: Email DNS issue
Is it just me that thinks its wholely unacceptable that their estimated fix time is 8.30pm tonight, when the fault was raised at 8am this morning? having email issues is a massive disruption to customers, and not to mention people having websites hosted on the homepage.ntlworled.com domain.

I should probably do that, I've been running my own qasdfdsaq.com domain for many years, which really doesn't do anything particularly useful yet. ---------- Post added at 12:59 ---------- Previous post was at 12:54 ----------

Looks like an update was made yesterday to set it to expire in 30 days.

As of today though, the domain does still exist and is officially registered.

Eh. Looks like an epic fail:

This is the nature of the global DNS system. No changes are instant. There are millions of servers to update, many of which are set to only check for changes on a cycle of anywhere from once an hour to once every 7 days.

re: Email (DNS) issue (ntlworld.com)
Yeah, I realise it takes time for the DNS servers etc, but VM should've been a lot quicker with dealing with the initial problem and acknowledging the issue in the first place, as people stated that their email went down at 4pm yesterday, that's a big gap really :/

re: Email (DNS) issue (ntlworld.com)
The problem was already dealt with yesterday it seems. It's taking time to propagate.

re: Email (DNS) issue (ntlworld.com)
Yep someone broke it yesterday it seems. I doubt this is a coincidence:
Domain Name: NTLWORLD.COM
Registry Domain ID:
Registrar WHOIS Server: whois.networksolutions.com
Registrar URL: http://networksolutions.com
Updated Date: 2014-08-25T00:00:00Z
There do not appear to be any authoritative DNS servers for the domain right now.

I presume it's also been fixed but is taking time to propagate around the interwebs as DNS does.

Seems to have got to googles DNS as both smtp and pop are returning pings now.

Good! Now go get yourself a gmail account so it doesn't happen ever again.
