TiVo : VM preparing to add Netflix option to online ordering

Although you can't use a smart DNS on Tivo , however if using your ps3,xbox360,pc.tablet ec to watch Netflix you can use a Smart DNS and once you discover Netflix usa , canada etc it makes Skymovies look like a jumble sale lol.
Also unlike Skymovies Netflix has tv shows on it too , yes i know Sky have tv shows but atm i'm just comparing Netflix to Skymovies only. In my opinion Netflix is leaps and bounds better than Skymovies but this is possibly only because i use a Smart DNS service.
Netflix UK has been getting some major movies before Sky movies lately too to name just two The Hobbit a unexpected journey and Hansel and Gretel Witch hunters.

ATM you have distinct options. More newer movies from Sky at a higher cost or older movies and loads of TV from Netflix at a rock bottom price.

A good compromise, as has been pointed out, is bluerays/DVDs from Lovefilm at £10/month, which also includes the streaming content as well.

You pays your money etc.

It would be great to have Netflix as part of XL, and then we could pay an optional extra fiver or so to receive more modern films as deals are done with the studios.

I am sure that Netflix will be much better value than Sky Movies as time goes on.

I'm lost with this comparison between Sky Movies and Netflix

Netflix is a great service if TV boxsets is your thing and its nice to have the added addition of some movies although mostly older ones.

If your a film buff and want purely movies then Sky Movies via Sky or VM or Now TV really is the clear winner , many of Netflixs movie range have been shown on terrestrial TV.

You are absolutely right, but Netflix have stated that they will go all out to win studio contracts that are currently held by Sky as they come up for renewal. This will change the films landscape considerably (if they are successful) and although this is likely to increase prices, I am convinced that they will be able to undercut Sky by a huge margin, because we are definitely being overcharged at present.

Are you suggesting that Netflix would become a two tier system? £6 for what they offer now, and a higher cost option of £11 to also get access to newer films? Personally, I'd be surprised if that happened.

Many people on the Now TV forums claim the movie pass is too expensive at £15 , they state Netflix is much better value at £6 so maybe just maybe people prefer the lower priced services such as Netflix and Lovefilm just as they are , if Netflix were to outbid Sky and win most of the key studios you'd be paying considerably more probably as damn near the current movies pass price now.

Exactly not in a million years , Netflix is an excellent service in its current form I believe they'll continue investing in originals and staying at the forefront of technology.

I am not the film buff I used to be, but I still enjoy them greatly. I do not have Sky movies though, it's too much money to justify. I can get an unlimited cinema pass for £16. I am happy going to the cinema, renting movies from Blockbuster and buying favourites to add to my collection (there are loads of hidden gems knocking around dirt cheap these days).

The added bonus of renting/buying dvds/bluray are the extras you get. I still love movies, and greatly enjoy listening to commentaries and finding out the reasons behind certain story lines, characters etc, etc.

Sky (nor anyone else) do this as far as I am aware.

So for me, this is the clear winner in the way I want to watch my movies.

I am still unsure if I would pay £6 or more for Netflix, but it would be a viable option for me to consider. As much as I like the extras, sometimes I just wanna watch a movie.

Also, many of Sky's (and Netflix's) movies have been shown on t.v in the past and are available cheaply on-line or in stores.

I do not see how the suggestion is much different from people taking Sky movies and paying extra to watch newly released movies on Sky box office or VM's equivalent.

Also, as was kindly pointed out to me, you have the option with Wuaki to pay extra for certain movies.
Whilst Lovefilm do have a different setup, they offer a two tier payment system, so people can pay extra to watch newer/different movies. As I say, it is a different system, but the principle of a two tier payment system clearly works for them.

Netflix could simply offer to stream the newer movies, rather than offer dvd/blurays too.

The two tier payment system seems a logical idea to me.

I'm not saying that it isn't logical; I have no problem with it. I just don't think that Netflix will go down that route. A cheap price for loads of content, both film and TV has served them well; the proof of which is that they have 33 million subscribers world wide. Fair enough, I just don't see why they would not want to try and expand their business.

How exactly does that come into comparisons between movie services ? Any serious sports fans either go the games or watch on a traditional pay TV platform via a monthly sub , the day ticket is meant for casual watchers who may want to watch that special one off event or a day were there's a couple of games.

Is that the long term price now? At one time it was one month free, three months at £8.99 and them £15 thereafter.
