Re: The Amazon Kindle Thread

My kindle met with an accident when I was at work(I work on a ship) luckily a very good friend wasn't totally addicted to their new kindle and lent me their's until I got a new one from amazon. I certainly went into a cold sweat until the friend offered the loan. ( they did get my old cover as a reward though)

Natalie's back at work, but I don't want to out the back on until I know it's ok.

I just wish I was more patient

Re: The Amazon Kindle Thread

My wifes Kindle has died 2 weeks out of the 1 year warranty, luckily enough had a nice chap from their CS and they have sent out a replacement for it. And it's a 3G one which is handy.

Saying that, I don't think I'll be buying another one after finding out that the problem with the kindle seems to be all too common. The screen just messes up with lines everywhere and it can happen to any kindle regardless of its age or how well you look after them.

Re: The Amazon Kindle Thread

I only work part-time hours and as part of a recompense for those of us that don't have a full working week my employer offers an incentive that if we can prove it will aid our performance, after 3 months of clear results they will fully reimburse us the cost of a number of items, Kindles being one of them (has to be the e-reader type, not a 'tablet' so no HD Fire unfirtunately) so I bought a Kindle Touch yesterday. I always wanted one and without this scheme at work I couldn't afford one but I'm really glad I did...

OMG it's awesome, I love it. Sadly I can't claim for any books but there are plenty of 20p books available on it. Unfortunately I can't claim for a case or spare charger etc but obviously I'm not complaining.

The reported 'flash' when turning a page when the 'ink' refreshes is certainly there but doesn't bother me at all. Awesome bit of kit, fully recommended

Don't forget to minimise this you can set it so that it only 'flashes' once every six or so pages.

Re: The Amazon Kindle Thread

I bought a Kindle Paperwhite a few weeks back and I love it! I didn't like the original grey E-Ink screen and was reading books in the app on my ipad, but found it ate my battery which was a problem as I use it for work, saw the paperwhite when it came out and it seemed like the best of both worlds, and it is!

Great stuff!

Re: The Amazon Kindle Thread

Credit where credit is due, I recieved a brand new (3g) keyboard Kindle in the post the very next day as a replacement. (From a reconditioned non 3g version).

I'm still going to be dubious about them as they know they have a problem with them but they still haven't done anything about it.

But I can't fault Amazon's response. But I will have to think again before recommending the Kindle to anyone.

Just discovered that practically all Gordon R Dickson's early SF catalogue is available for kindle including the Dorsai novels for a very reasonable price for each at Amazon.
