Buffering on TV catchup
Missed out on a program yesterday so decided to watch on catchup.
The program (BBC1 HD) was continually buffering for part of the 30min the program was on. (Maybe 5/6 periods of 2min buffering)
Only on 20meg via Ambit for main service which my wife was using via her laptop.
Only had Tivo since just before christmas, not used to buffering issues full stop.
I take it it was a Virgin issue rather than program playing up?

Couldn't have been a Virginmedia connection, David Tennant said there was NO buffering in their advertisement

It's really hard after the event to know where the problem lay. Most likely a network or server issue, but it might be the programme or a problem in your box. Even if you try again you can't guarantee getting routed to the same server, so may not get consistent results.
However, it definitely isn't related to your broadband connection. That's totally separate,
Report it to VM if it keeps happening.

My wife heard about a programme via the Radio recently.So we ( well she) went to watch it on catchup ( BBC 1 last Thursday for the life of me I can not remember what it was)
And yes we had buffering & a total lost of service at one point. Went back to try again and it remembered were it had crashed !! which was good. Now how about on demand doing that as well. Surely the technology cannot be that different?

The technology is very different, though that isn't really relevant. On Demand does keep bookmarks for Virgin Movies (possibly other pay-per-view stuff too), but it can't for everything at the moment. Just the way the system is designed.

See if I understand this. Both come from a server, both let you select from a list what you want to watch. One remembers you and were you stopped watching ,one does not - yes . Yet other services from Virgin can. OK I guess that`s is clear. Think I have found my moan for the year

AFAIK, iPlayer on Tivo is not supplied by VM (iPlayer on the other boxes is). iPlayer on Tivo is maintained and supplied directly by the BBC, in much the same was as the versions on the web, PS3, xbox, iPhone, Android and various Smart TVs.

Had the same thing on iPlayer, YouTube and even odd drop outs on Spotify. Had 9 or 10 techs out, 2nd Line Dept investigations etc, new but still happening on all 3 TiVo boxes. Gave up now.
When we first got TiVo at launch, we could watch YouTube playlists all night long, now most videos jump buffer and freeze, even videos not in HD. I guess its internet related? No-one seems to know whats up?

Ive been sent out to a few BBc Iplayer buffering, nothing I can do about it, its just congestion like normal internet can get, thats why it was better when virgin hosted the catchup on bbc

Good to have someone from VM acknowledge the issue, think its a first...
10MB should be enough for iplayer, its fine on a PC, PS3 etc with the same speed. There's obviously an issue with TIVO's implementation of iplayer
Problem is people are getting a better catch up service for BBC on the V+ and VHD - which cost less. I have a TiVo and a VHD , so its straight for the VHD if I want to use catch up.
Vm don't seem to want to even acknowledge the issue on the support forum, presumably because they don't have a solution. Blaming the BBC ain't going to work forever when iplayer works fine on other platforms.
