I am estimated at 60+mbit down and 20mbit up
Go 50 houses away tho and its down to half speed for the down and just 6mbit up. VDSL seems to have a very severe speed drop on distance compared to ADSL. But since there is many cabinets most people will be close to one.

Well Ive just had sky fibre installed and i am 300+ meters from the cab!
and was estimated 40mb down and 10up
but when the openreach guy turned up he said i would get 76/20 no problem
So maybe its not all down to distance, but he did say however that there's only 2 people on fibre on the whole estate!!
and.....
got the pro this morning get 65mb down and 18mb up with homeplugs,
on my rig, cant tell on the other computer in the house cause its an old P4 and won't do much more than 42mb cabled!!!
speedtest done last night before the connection went pro, on a 6 year old P4 (Hard wired)!!

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
Im on UBR 4 in Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham and am still waiting for my 100mb to be increased to 120mb. My superhub is limited to 104mb as Virgin confirm and they keep saying I will be upgraded soon although there website says it's available now.
Im at a loss as to what to say, maybe one day sometime my internet might be faster? Although im already supposed to be getting it, although they know im not getting it.
This maybe covered in a post on one of the 144 pages but I havent read them all!

The website is for the up to 100Mbit increases only - it doesn't include 120Mbit yet
These are the areas that have been enabled for 120Mbit http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...e/td-p/1530876

The website says "If you're one of my up to 100Mb customers, I reduced your monthly bill in April 2012 and now I'm going to boost you up to 120Mb as soon as your area's ready."
I put my postcode in the checker and it says "Your area is ready"
So the "I'm going to boost you up to 120Mb as soon as your area's ready." bit is worded very badly!
Looks like im left with no answer as to when Im actually going to get a speed increase from virgin, it's no wonder the ASA have to keep banning adverts from virgin... they refuse to be clear and concise.
Thanks for your help.

Also my area Sutton Coldfield, Birmingham is not even on the list here: http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...e/td-p/1530876
Yet they say it will be in 2 weeks! LOL

Congratulations! The new double speed boosts are already up and running in your area.
We've finished upgrading the fibre optic network in your area.
More about the upgrade
Want to see how much more you can do with your new speed?

Again, not about 120Mbit - VM are aware of the confusing wording on the site and it is being changed soon.

Broadband Tech Support on 150 said it was coming in a few weeks
I will phone ASA tomorrow morning and see if that helps them change it any faster.
I do really appreciate your comments and help, Telewest Broadband severely went down hill when Virgin Bought it, started with Customer Service and expanded to the entire operation not long after.
I hate companies that deliberately miss lead there customers.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
Mine says its done in.my area both on my virginmedia in a green box and also on bolt rollout but im not on 120meg yet still max 105 but most times at 60 to 80 hence if bot sorted ill be downgrading to 60 since most times im getting way under what i should be.
120 should read up to 60 maybe 80 but you wont get 120

Speed doubling is a different programme than 120Mb upgrade. You are probably still on 100Mb.
Check your Router Status at http://192.168.100.1/home.asp If your downstream is at 110000000 bps you are still on 100Mb.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
dont feel like you have been left out dude. I have been perfectly content sat on 100/10 all year without any free upgrade. Upload speed means more to me than anything else and if I has been waiting all year for a free downstream upgrade and now an upstream upgrade I would be well pee'd off.

What method are you using to determine your download speed? Beware Flash / Java-based speed tests, especially if your machine is underpowered processor-wise.
My main PC is wired in and has a decent quad core. I always get the full speed (104.5Mb) when the network isn't ridden with problems! My other PC, also wired in, having an old dual core processor, never gives me more than 75Mb. My VM Freedom net book, also wired in, never gives me more than 40Mb.
If in doubt use a file download method of determining speed. Your can download 4 or 5 big multiple files simultaneously from here. http://gamefiles.virginmedia.com/blueyondergames/ Just add up the combined speeds when they start to max out. If you get a combined 12MB you are pretty well on 100Mb.
Sorry, if you knew all this stuff already.
