Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 3
It's how long the 'coming weeks' period is that is of concern. Sadly, VM don't have a good reputation in this area.
Apparantly, Sky are due to release their version this year; Surely VM can't let Sky get there first on a USP that should have been VM's months ago?

No because I don't have one. I was trying to work out where you got your timeline from?
Although saying that, considering it's been tested recently, I'd say it'll be available sooner rather than later

How soon is soon Ben but one suspects that question will not have a forthcoming answer.

Its not about Sky SP but about actually when are we going to get a concrete date for Multi Streaming rather then the vague quagmire of answers that its coming soon we seem to get constantly.

Of course I don't but you're missing the point.
Given that Sky have more TV channels and are now offering fibre BB, VM need all the USP's they can get. Tivo to tivo box communication was enabled about a year ago. Why haven't VM got their finger out and got multiroom streaming emabled before now, to give them a nice USP. Given that Sky have the same functionality planned, the longer VM delay with this, the shorter lived the USP associated with it will be.
This, coupled with the ipad app taking two years when Sky already have one, makes VM look incompetent in this area.
VM have many, many good points, but lack of channels and slowness to deliver promised functionality are two bad ones. Just my view, as someone who is free to both praise and critisize VM.

No, I'm making the point. Sky don't give away their plans in advance - why should VM? It's all about competitive advantage.

But the trouble with that is any competitive advantage disappears up the chimney as by the time its released big bad Sky have already released their version thus leaving Virgin lagging behind as usual..

But I don't expect a specific date; I know they'll never release that. I'm complaining that Multiroom streaming and ipad have taken far too long, and that "In the coming weeks" is a meaningless statement given VM's track record for delivering things.
Multiroom streaming is functionality where VM could have been way ahead of Sky; Tivo boxes could talk to each other after the 15.2 update a year ago, but VM seem to have let that time advantage slip away.

And if they released it too early people would be complaining about them rushing out software that wasn't "ready for primetime" like they did when TiVo was originally released (after loads of posts here saying "I want TiVo nooowwwww!!!!!").

Tivo worked for me from the getgo; I could never understand what people were moaning about.
But no one is arguing that things should be released before they are ready; they are arguing about the amount of time it takes VM to get to that 'ready' state.

I got one of the first releases of Tivo to current VM customers in April 2011 (new customers had to wait unril June) and there were 3 tuners from the getgo and SD picture was fine.
Red button was missing but if you wanted red button, you could stay on V+. Delaying the Tivo launch until red button was on there, would have made no sense; It would have not got tivo to those who wanted red button any faster, but would have delayed it, for no good reason, for those who didn't care about red button.
I do think VM could have made sure that people were aware of that initial lack of red button.

Some customers got TiVo before then, and it only had 2 tuners working.
