Firstly cretin that's a news story not an advertisement, secondly VM have been at pains to not claim a doubling for all customers - they quite specifically say they'll double it for more than 4 million customers - which is exactly what you quoted though obviously didn't read.
I'm sorry you think you're getting stitched up only getting 120/12 and a price reduction instead of 200/20, I'm still on 53/1.75.

Double speed should be like this:
Planned VirginMedia Download Speed Upgrades
* 10Mb increased to 20Mb [2Mbps Uploads]
* 20Mb increased to 40Mb [4Mbps Uploads]
* 30Mb increased to 60Mb [6Mbps Uploads]
* 50Mb increased to 100Mb [10Mbps Uploads]
* 100Mb increased to 200Mb [20Mbps Uploads]
|
I've highlighted the bit that's important for you. Hint: It says over 4million customers, not ALL customers. How many people do you think are actually on 100Meg? I'll give you a clue, it's not a lot.
Plus, the BBC headline isn't the words of Virgin, it's the words of the BBC. Here's Virgin's Statement:
http://mediacentre.virginmedia.com/S...eeds-2322.aspx
Quote:
Virgin Media boosts Britain's broadband speeds
11 Jan 2012
Over four million households will have speeds doubled
Next-generation speeds to catapult UK up international rankings
120Mb to become fastest broadband speed in the country
Government welcomes broadband boost

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
I am sorry 120Mb is not worth it from our currently 104Mb. I probably better off downgrade to 50Meg and pay for the lower price of 50Meg and get free upgrade to 100Meg. £35 a month is lots difference than £45.

You do realise those currently on 100Mbit are also getting a price reduction - likely to the same price as XXL is

A few points
1# That's not the Virgin media site so are not responsible for what is said on there
2# They have probably more than 4 million customers (the rest are probably the 100Mb customers
3# The official site says "most customers will be doubled" and "Speed Upgrades"
Not sure you'd have a case with the ASA

The website still stated 100Meg standalone at £45 a month without a phone, while 50Meg standalone at £35 a month without a phone

That's because the price change hasn't happened yet.

Re: Virgin Media to Double Broadband Speed
I think this has been asked already but just want to be sure. just say x area was to be upgraded in say May and a new customer joined from that area a week or more before it had upgraded.. would they 1 get the upgrade too and 2 would the price reduction apply with them being literally signing the contract ?

More answers over on Community Forum http://community.virginmedia.com/t5/...962021#M110205
This one will probably of interest to those here:
Quote:
Does that mean this new investment will also resolve the existing inadequacies with network peak time utilisation rates (at least in areas like mine and various others I have noted in the forums)? Or, is this additional investment only to cope with expected additional demand?
The work we're doing for speed doubling is over and above the work we're already doing to resolve areas with high utilisation problems
