Problem Connecting To Internet With New Router

Apologies if this is a very basic enquiry, but I am having problems connecting a new wireless router to the internet.

I have a wired Virgin Media Modem and my own wireless router. My main PC is connected to my router by ethernet cable. I have had the router for over 5 years now and the wireless is failing so I have bought a new wireless router. I am following the instructions on the setup wizard that came with the router and it says I need to input my ISP details as follows:
Username
Password
DNS (Name) Primary & Secondary (if applicable)

1. Is my username the first part of my primary email address or the whole email address or something else

2. Is my password my primary email address password or something else

3. Do I need the DNS details?

Thanks advance for your help.

p.s. CS said I needed to contact the Router manufactures helpline (Buffalo) for help. But what would they know about the VM settings

Re: Problem Connecting To Internet With New Router

You need to power off the modem when you connect or change the device directly connected to it, i.e. the router.

Assuming that you have a cable router, not an ADSL one that won't work with cable modems, there is no requirement for a password or user. The modem is the bit linked to the Virgin Media Network and uses it's own means to authenticate to the ISP. Your router should be automatically (dynamically) issued the necessary IP connection info needed to connect to the modem and router.

It's a Buffalo WHR-HP-G300N

Says it's Wireless N High Power Router and Access Point.

I have already tried powering everything off and then turning on modem, router and pc in that order and it won't connect.

If I do the same power off power on sequence and reconnect me old router I get a connection again
