Re: Serious Virgin Cable Routing Issues

Hi Masque

Thanks for your reply's I get more sense from this site than the horrible 2nd line support.

This is what I have done:

Swapped the Superhub for the old Modem/Dlink 615 (Which should have changed the IP as I had to ring up virgin to swap it over) with still the same issue i.e. sites not showing content and wow getting to 90% before disconncting.

Changed DNS providers (Virgin, OpenDNS, Google)

Tried on over 4 machines (Running Different OS) and 2 Iphones

Other people on this site can get to these sites.

75% of sites do work, 25% do not.

Sites work OK if I connect via VPN or Mobile broadband.

Virgin claim that the onus is on me to sort out and contact the webpages directly and I should be the one contacting all parties - My VPN subscription (which is £15 a month) has now run out so the only way I can contact the sites is to pay on top of my internet connection just so I can fix this issue.

Both threads I linked earlier on the post to wow-europe.com have had a blue post saying their techs have looked into the issue and it's not their side.

I think I can raise my claim with Ofcom as I am paying for a service I cannot use. As you prob can tell in my post I'm not clueless when it comes to IT but expecting someone to contact sites individually to get them to 'fix' the problem is very lengthy process.

Thanks

Re: Serious Virgin Cable Routing Issues

I am surprised that you still have issues with your standalone kit, have you tried changing the MAC address to see if you get a connection or even OpenDNS or Googles DNS servers.

Re: Serious Virgin Cable Routing Issues

Hi Masque

Again thanks for your help - I know you don't have to and It really is appreciated.

Last night I plugged in the VMNG300v2 Modem and the old DLINK 615 and registered it with virgin

- Should this change the IP address?

If not, I don't beleive you can change the IP from the DLINK or the Modem?

You should have got a different ip with that setup, if not if you do a pinhole reset of the D link and go through the setup wizard it should clone your computers MAC address and give you a different ip address.

In fact have you tried a direct connection to the modem to what happens when you get a new ip address, remember to reboot the modem.

Re: Serious Virgin Cable Routing Issues

Hi

I have swapped the superhub for the VMNG300v2 + Dlink Router DIR-615 combo and got virgin to swap over the connection to it.

Would swapping the router - which has a different mac address change the IP?

If not is there anywhere in the Virgin Modem/Dlink router that allows you to change the mac address as I was sure the DLINK is customer firmware that doesnt have this option?

Re: Serious Virgin Cable Routing Issues

Swapping the superhub for the VMNG300 should have given you a new ip address. Strange that it didnt.

Re: Serious Virgin Cable Routing Issues

I know you've tried with two routers, so this is unlikely to be the problem, but can you make sure that no ICMP is being blocked on them? This looks a lot like a PMTU discovery problem.

Re: Serious Virgin Cable Routing Issues

Hi All

I cannot access

RARLAB.COM
TUMBLR.COM

(Both sites just sit there in a white screen in the browser - in chrome, firefox, ie) and never time out just sit there connecting..

The only items I have ticked in my settings are:

Ipsec PassThrough
PPTP PassThrough
Multicast

I have tried the sites with them all ticked, them all unticked and every combo basically
