Seems to take a different route thus avoiding the problem router.

Great tip that Paul! Thanks very much for that, it works a treat while they sort their problems out. Cheers!

Re: Can't Access Loads of Websites!
Bumping this thread because this problem seems to have resurfaced, with the same websites affected. Steam, Blizzard/WoW, liverpoolfc.tv (lol), guild wars, etc.
edit: From Bournemouth. Problem's been reported again on the VM forums by some of the same people who were complaining about it last week, so I know it's not just me.

Re: Can't Access Loads of Websites!
if you run a tracert it'll fail at one of the hops, winn-bb-1a-as0-0.network.virginmedia.net. i don't understand it really, barely computer literate, but i assume that server's having issues.

Re: Can't Access Loads of Websites!
Back with a vengeance now... we're talking BBC site/rss feeds not working (can ping, dns resolves, site doesn't come up), eBay not loading a bunch of images, other sites I was using like theTVDB.com failing to load at all or even ping. It's a real mess.
There's always something, eh? Just as I iron out all the bugs on the home network end, VM have a problem with their infrastructure. It's disappointing to have the feeling only half the entire internet is accessible.

BBC's fine, it always has been for me. Some people have had problems with facebook and IGN, and those have always been fine for me, too. I really don't get what the problem is.

Re: Can't Access Loads of Websites!
Appears to be alright now, although in the meantime I've rigged the router up to use Google's DNS, which seems faster than VMs, so not a fair test although I don't see that it makes much difference.

When I tested Google DNS, Open DNS and VM DNS by pinging from my old 20meg VM connection, VM's servers were very certainly swifter. Try pinging the DNS servers before you settle on one, you might find it's just the thrill of not using the VM servers that you're getting rather than a speed increase. ~
No, it makes little difference to speed unless the DNS servers are far away. It would be nice if the Superhub let me use other DNS servers simply though, then I could dodge these drop-out issues with ease when they crop up.

Re: Can't Access Loads of Websites!
I agree, probably VM's DNS servers are about the same, although despite a ~10ms ping increase (~30ms vs. ~20ms) on Google's DNS, sites do seem a tad quicker to load. Main reason for the change was to see if it would avert any problems I was having, but in most cases the sites still wouldn't load all content, or anything at all.

Re: Can't Access Loads of Websites!
I'm having this problem, been like it for a few days now. I'm having to use a webcache but it's far from ideal. Anyone else experiencing it?
