That is ridiculous!

My install took exactly 35 minutes, including giving me a basic rundown on the box and he was off!

Have they checked to quality of the signal coming into your house?

  • The speed of the box. Was only a little slower than V+ when I first got it, but now it's 35% full, there is a delay of up to 10 seconds to get through some of the menus...
as I said in my earlier post last night:

"My drive has got to 47% today and Tivo seems to be getting slower the more thats on it. When I got tivo installed I said to the engineer how fast Tivo was, but he said it slows down the more thats recorded on it. It appears to be correct at the moment??"

If this is the case whats the point of having huge storage when it slows the box down.

Also re my Ice Road Truckers SL issuse (see post 3039) I changed to to "new" last night after it recorded last nights show. And guess what? its still recoreded this mornings showing.

And whilst Tivo was recording IRT again this morning, it was recording Click and Mickey Mouse on Playhouse Disney (a one off recording for my grandson) I was watching a recording of Family Guy and viewing these forums. Then as Click stopped recording, Family Guy stopped mid way and Tivo changed to BBC News channel without anyone touching the remote. I had to go back into My Shows to finish watching Family Guy.

Grrr...

Seeing as we are currently seeing a lot of problems coming to the surface maybe we should try to resolve these issues before we get carried away on a fit of enthusiasm and before all the lovers of all things VM go off on one read the various forums. A lot of folks are not best pleased that their experience does not live up to that promised.

I seem to be quite lucky in that my gripes are quite small and will hopefully be addressed in time but there seems to be quite a significant number of quite unhappy folk out there. I wonder if this has anything to do with VM not bringing this box to mass market yet?

While I'm on a rant, and without being gender specific, it seems that the non techie person in the households are struggling to come to terms with the complexity of the TiVo. How many posts have we seen comments that the significant other just wants the V+ back?

Couldn't agree more fixerman I was just replying to passingbats post about networked TIVOs and showing it's been out stateside. I 100% agree get the faults ironed out , there does seem a few at the moment.

Yes l will continue to have a opinion and that opinion is based upon the facts of what virgin do or do not do and nothing else.

Whilst I see your point, surely it's only a matter of time before VM & TiVo get these little niggles ironed out?

VM are definately promoting TiVo on their site now, it's pretty much taking centre stage when you click on the 'TV, BB & Phone' tab from virginmedia.com

As for people wanting the V+ box back, I'm sure this was the case when people originally moved to sky+ from VCRs. It just takes time to adjust and see the benefits, once that happens I can't see many people wanting to stay with the 'basic' V+.

Also with talk of the V-HD box getting the TiVo software on board along with the leaks about sharing content between all TiVo boxes in your house, I don't see why this is out of the realms of possibility!

http://youtu.be/yEi9Z5H0h9w

I'd love that sort of functionality & wouldn't think twice about getting a TiVo box to replace the bedroom V+ if it meant a combined storage of either 1.5tb or even 2tb!!

Re: General TiVo Discussion Part 2

I've had ours a few days now and it is so much faster than the SA V+ (or TV-Drive). Love the interface, though there are some odd quirks about it that I'm having to get used to (the keyboard dosent wrap the cursor, so you go left and get dumped back a menu. It does remember what you have typed though which was a surprise).

Not a fan of the remote, though. It feels nice and built well, but the button placement seems odd. Numbers at the very bottom and the OK button at the top? Same with the back/clear buttons being away from the navigation buttons. It probably dosent help that the interface quirks also mean that sometimes one button does nothing in one screen but works in the next. I'll get used to it, but I think my poor thumb is going to have to grow another few cm's :p
