Cooling off period and money back guarantee

The consumer law states that you have 7 days "cooling off period" to cancel a contract without penalty.

As per http://www.virginmediainfo.co.uk/welcomepackinfo.shtml
VM's new contract letters state:
"In addition to your statutory rights, we offer a 28 day money back guarantee. The 28 day money back guarantee is available to new customers and existing customers taking a new service."

Assuming this guarantee is still part of VM's welcome pack, would this apply to TiVo, being a new service?

For those who receive installation for free (£40 waived), does this need to be paid after cancellation? Obviously, the goods need to be collected by VM.

I'm really not so sure about that, as except for VIP50 and 100 you will be paying an extra £3 per month. Surely as it's an ongoing monthly fee and not a one off payment it would rate as a new service?

Could be. I have to say, that's how I interpreted it. but considering the 28 days mbg is a VM policy, and not law, I guess they can set the restrictions as they see fit.

Personally, I only need to know I can cancel after 7 days, so it's all good.

Re: Cooling off period and money back guarantee

The Virgin 28 day money back guarantee says it applies to new and existing customers taking a new service, surely TiVo would meet the requirement of a new service as it is just out ? and has been mentioned already TiiVo costs an extra £3 a month sub i cannot understand why the 28 day money back guarantee would not apply if you are not happy with the service.

Re: Cooling off period and money back guarantee

A good point, but then again, 7 days should be long enough for such a decision
