Anyway my original post was really aimed at those who do have the choice, and can switch to SKY.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.
I think what the position is that VM isn't a big challenge in the broadcasting world, no matter what they tell you, the issue with channels is that, again they want them on the cheap.
Its about time they put customers first instead of thinking of themself, Sky themself said that they offered Atlantic to VM, at a reaonable price, and VM said it was too expensive - what do they want it for nothing.
They must be paying a lot of money for those adverts on Tv, WHY, they shove loads of leaflets through my door each week, if they havn't got money, then why advertise on Tv.

But Arthur (and I think you probably haven't thought this through fully), if VM pay more for the channels, they will have to charge the customers (you and me) more.

One of the biggest problems is Virgins pricing structure is totally inflexible.

I'm glad they do. I don't want my monthly subscription fee to be jumping up month after month to cover the cost of Virgin throwing money at new channels.

I believe Virgin are putting their customers first. They engage in long drawn out negotiations to deliver the right channels to us, at the right price. We have no proof whatsoever in regards to how much SKY wanted for SKY Atlantic, and how much Virgin offered for it.

I'd say Virgin are trying to grow their customer base. More customers means more money, which means Virgin have more funds available to negotiate deals to bring new channels to their platform.
I'm pretty frustrated that Premier Sports hasn't arrived yet. I am however convinced that as long as customers demand this channel Virgin will eventually get it at the right price.

Agreed - however, some of this is down to the content suppliers (such as Sky), who insist that channels are bought in groups.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.
I would be quite prepared to pay a few quid more, for better quality channels, ie l would like to have Premier Sports - but at what price.
If people are not prepared to pay for this, you won't get it, in the real world, if you want something, you have got to pay for it - simples.

We all know that Sky despite ofcoms intervention still has too much power in which they can dictate to other providers but Virgin has to also take the blame for trying to get channels for nothing, in some cases to please customers they should pay the going rate.
There are also still plenty of channels not owned by Sky in which Virgin could get for customers.

Erm, could you give us an example of VM trying to get a channel for nothing, please?

A very valid point , it's very easy to blame Sky all the time. To be honest I'm not Murdoch's biggest fan however I do feel VM want channels ridiculously cheap , they haven't even added pay tv channels like ITV 2,3,4 HD.

I would be interested in the list of channels that are available in this country that enough customers would be interested in that VM should be spending money on them.
A few more HD channels and a boost in box sets etc on VOD would be more welcome by most rather than niche channels that would have low viewing figures.

Virgin have added sod all of note for 7 months with no sign of improvement. Silence from them is as ever deafening. End of. Cue happy clappers

What other reason would you give for the failure to add channels in the last nine months especially when in some cases they said certain channels are coming as stated in certain press releases.

Okaaaayyyy
Can you provide a link where Virgin are trying to get channels "ridiculously cheap"......
Apart from telling Sky that the price they want for Atlantic is way too high I don't know of any.
They are of course trying to pay what they feel is a sustainable price that means they can compete with Sky and thats what the whole Ofcom thing was about...........
As to ITV 2,3 & 4 HD no-one knows as far as I know what the deal is that they have with Sky and if subs etc are based on being exclusive or if Sky helped pay for them to be set up as well.

I was asking for a list of channels that are available and not on VM and are not niche products.
We all know whats not on VM HD wise
