Atlantic is merely part of their overall HD offer which at over 3m paying punters and rising dosen't seem to be doing too badly.

VM are taking a punt with techie hardware and Sky will continue to punt with content, the public will decide what they want.

Ultimately Sky's but because VM have put themslves in a corner over pricing so they just cannot afford to offer channels like Atlantic.

It isn't my cup of tea but it's clearly a very high quality channel and way out of VM's league.
Does skys deal with HBO i wonder cover streaming content? I ask this as the TiVo as is well known has a 10Mb internet connection if as is rumoured vm tie up with say lovefilm for streaming content, all the stuff on sky atlantic is mostly available on lovefilm to buy and stream online already.

BT Vision have HBO streaming content too.

VM losing it was nothing to do with Sky so I would guess other vendors can provide it.

Stuart Murphy, Sky's director of programmes for Sky1 and Sky Atlantic, wrote a blog post last week highlighting the growing importance of "consolidated" viewing figures.

Murphy pointed to the series premiere of new drama Mad Dogs, which gained 817,000 viewers on Sky1, but that increased to around 2.2m over the seven-day period after transmission.

"At Sky, we've long since dispensed with the overnights as a measure of how well we're meeting the demand of our viewers, although for some in the free-to-air world or some commentators it remains a preoccupation," said Murphy.

"Our view is that we've given our customers the opportunity to define their own schedules, and we therefore need to have measurement models which properly reflect the changing behaviours of our customers. We don't want to be in a position where viewers are one step ahead of the rest of us."
E.G. Are numbers are bad so we changed the rules, and then told you the numbers for a Sky 1 program (that they use to advertise their TV services even though it's no longer on).

Did BTs deal not run out after the vm one sorry i do not know? if that is the case BT might not have HBO content much longer.

But my main point was vm do not have sky atlantic but they could possibly get access to that content via streaming via lovefilm over the TiVo internet connection, which would mean there would be no need to carry sky atlantic at all on cable to get the content.

No it didn't, people were speculating VM lost their HBO content because of Sky snapping up the rights but this dosen't appear to be correct.

BT have a long term deal with HBO, it certainly runs at least until next year when Boardwalk Empire will be shown.

LoveFilm or the likes may well appear on Tivo but they already have FilmFlex so no doubt all manner of rights negotiations would have to take place.

Personally I suspect FilmFlex will be VM's sole PPV film provider for the foreseeable future.

It will be interesting to see if next year when BTs long term HBO deal runs out they can/will renew it or wether the sky deal precludes them from doing so.

Could VM not have both lovefilm and Filmflex running in tandem then customers could decide who to take content from for films?, for mini series and comedies ie curb your enthusiam ,boradwalk empire filmflex would not be showing these anyway so i guess its possible both could have a place on vm.

But as you say deals have to be done but for all we know vm could already be talking to lovefilm about content without advertising the fact, if thats the case its "coming soon"

Cindy has said that they are looking at adding services like Lovefilm and that having Filmflex wouldn't stop that. My guess is Amazon (Lovefilm) would love to get on there, or Google (they have a film/music streaming service coming in the UK).

I doubt it would work having two vendors offering the same PPV content but you never know. As I understand it Sky's exclusive HBO deal is for broadcast TV rights not OD.

Maybe VM are in talks with LoveFilm so I am more than happy to go along with your 'coming soon' in the absence of anything else!

Thanks for that now that lovefilm are owned by amazon they might well look to expand into other streaming areas given amazons powerful financial muscle especially if it would give them access to vms customer base.
