Suppose it all depends which out of the channels is going to get the most customers. And the content on Pop TV isn't going completely, so may be better delivered that way.

This.
I think since moving to Virgin I've continued using my Sky HD box more than I have the Virgin, purely because of Al Jazeera's superior news coverage.

Virgin's current News choice is poor at the moment
Freeview is stronger. Can't understand why Virgin won't give the paying customer more choice.
As a whole I can't see Virgin adding much this year, they will be to busy concentrating on TiVo which is a shame as we can't all afford it.

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.
People moan on here about VM channel offering but look at this comparison
VM XL TV including ESPN and HD = £24.50 from April
Sky 6 mix = £24.50
ESPN = £12.00 if you don't have Sky sports
HD charge £10.25
So VM with XL and free ESPN and HD = £24.50
compare to
Sky with HD and ESPN = £46.75
Are them extra HD channels worth £22.25 only you can answer.
Some people with Sky premiums may find the gap is closer.

You forgot to add in the £6 extra that VM charge for not having a VM phone line. Stll cheaper, but not as much cheaper.

If you have an additional set top box with VM, ESPN would be available on both boxes at no additional charge (other than the multi-room charge). If you have Sky Multi-room, ESPN would only be available on the one box (the viewing card subscribed to it).
If you don't have, or never intend to have, multi-room then that point is totally useless, but thought I'd make it anyway!

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.
Just noticed that one of the adverts now heavily mentions HD.
Looks like there's going to be a big push this year!

As I've stated there has to be a big push on HD this is a growth area for VM , TiVo is great but you still need the content for it. Everybody who buys a new TV gets a HD one and then looks for a service to provide HD.

Looking at a broader looking picture, l cannot see VM adding more HD channels, without charging for them.

Prices from April have increased £1.00. How would they charge for base channels it would be complicated.

I'm already paying £7.00 for SKY Sports and SKY Movies HD. If they asked for another £3.00 per month in return for all of the missing HD channels I'd bite their hand off! Well I say I'm paying £7.00, but it's part of VIP50 so I've got no idea what I'm actually paying for it

Re: Coming Soon to Virgin TV (2011) Vol. I.
Many countries provide some HD channels at no cost. In typical Sky style, they've dictated the HD market which VM and others must now follow, although VM broke the mould by providing some HD "free". So, it's not a given that new channels will cost more money.
There will come a time when most, if not all channels, will be in HD. Infrastructures will be updated to cope. Heck, 100MB Broadband couldn't have been dreamed about a few years ago.
Sky will be soon be the ones to be left behind due to the many flaws and limitations of the satellite system. Cable is, and always will be the future...
