Wouldnt that decrease the use of the 2-way games on Interactive though or will that just fade out. Im sure there is already a Millionaire game in interactive but you have to pay for it.
So if these apps stay free its a great move by Virgin Media.

Depends on the app.
For example, the Lovefilm app on my Sammy TV is free to download, but of course requires you to be a paid subscriber to Lovefilm in order to use it.

But it wouldn't be 4 million customers.
It would be the Lovefilm subscribers among those 4 million customers.
As for HD, this has been promised from Lovefilm for a while now. Coming soon, baby!

As Amazon now own Lovefilm its more likely to be sooner than later.
Also it would be easy for VM to do a deal with Lovefilm so that the content is available via a dedicated link to speed things up or even have Lovefilm servers on the VM network. The 10 meg BB in the TiVo would be good enough for great HD quality streamed to the box.
With Lovefilm content there would be masses of VOD added to that available and so would be a money maker for both on a pay to view as well as subscription basis with VM taking a cut.
Win Win for both of them and us

Re: TiVo
I don't know if it's been posted, but there is another new competition for 1000 people to win TiVo free for a year, without the need for a unique code or anything.
http://www.virginmedia.com/wintivo
Don't worry if it says you are called Phil at the end, it is happening to other people.

ie there is no way to turn it off completely.

We have our parental control settings set to 'standard' I think and set to 'off' for viewing recordings and wedon't have to use the PIN to watch recordings any time of the day for any of the shows you've mentioned above. We do have to use it before 9pm for anything we've recorded from a Sky Movies channel (excl family).
I've just had to re-set this for the replacement V+ we just got as I couldn't understand why it was asking for our PIN and our other one wasn't for the same programmes.

Re: TiVo
while i agree in general £3 is probably a bargain (cant say for sure because i cant experience tivo as they havent offered it to me and even then im not gonna pay £149 to test to see if i like it) there must be the danger of it spiraling with add ons , inflation , vat and any other tax that might get added (not sure is the tivo sub £3 or £3+vat@20%)
i guess the question for each of us as individuals is ... where do you draw the line on 'how much is it worth to you' ... losing DVR/PVR capability is a high price for testing a tivo box now for 30 days as i doubt they will replace the tivo with a V+ box again if i didnt like the tivo or didnt need the full tivo services within the 30 day trial which i assume applies to tivo upgrades the same as other upgrades

Virgin don't trial their services.
They do a 28 Day Money Back Guarantee, but that's not the same thing. Most of the time Virgin would (rightly) think that if you phone up and ask for a service, unless something goes seriously wrong, then you will keep it

Just had my gamble for free TIVO for 12 mths, with unique code.
Roll on March 20th.
If i do'nt win one I'll get one by paying for it, so either way its win -win
