I don't know why they couldn't leave them all as "Five ...". The naming convention of "Channel" and number is antiquated and, whilst some stations in the US, Australia and elsewhere still bear the remnants of these marks, most are moving away from such simplistic monikers in this multi-channel, multi-media world in which we live.
I can even see a time when BBC One, Two, Three and Four will become BBC Prime, Entertainment, Alternative and Culture with a similar convention being adopted by ITV. Prime was and Entertainment is the name used for BBC broadcasts to Europe and the Middle East and these names make just as much sense for the domestic services too.

It's not technical, so it must be due to existing contracts. There's no reason to think future services would be impacted by this.

It's good to know that it's not a technical issue and that it should not delay or complicate implementation of any future services but it's still weird that the contracts for these last two channels have not come up for renegotiation since the NGTV roll-out and consequential merger of platforms. Surely there are no Telewest-only contracts still in force this far on.

Telewest did sign long-time contracts with broadcasters all the time.
I think Virgin Media will drop RTE Radio and WRN Radio when deal is up for renegotiation.
I wish for Virgin Media to renegotiation with GMG Radio for Real Radio and Rock Radio to launch on Virgin TV.

I do hope that it will be to the benefit of the customer, though I doubt it.

I doubt that would ever happen. Sky's linear platform has significant competition for programming with very few exclusives.

I think the super league will make more games available and maybe have it on three broadcasters. Superleague games on Sky and ESPN and Challenge Cup on BBC.
