Re: non web traffic now throttled off peak
Virgin aren't throttling ports - they are managing P2P and Newsgroup traffic betwenn 5pm and midnight during the week
This is all detailed in the Traffic Management policy www.virginmedia.com/traffic
Unless you hit the download or upload threshold then all other traffic should not be affected

Re: non web traffic now throttled off peak
indeed, I now have to download ftp via proxy port 443 over VM as I have some servers running ftp on non standard ports.
I too have also noticed oddness outside of published hours but didnt post before as will obviously get shot down.

You can use alternative ports to bypass the throttling with premium usenet providers like Astraweb for instance

Re: non web traffic now throttled off peak
you might find you are hitting your stm allowance before 4pm dude because I think it is quite a low threshold on 10mbit

Re: non web traffic now throttled off peak
So how can you suggest they're throttling web traffic if web based speed tests are running at full speed?

Re: non web traffic now throttled off peak
Gah sorry, at it with the brain fail again.
In that case yes, I have noticed VM's traffic shaping being weird and catching things it shouldn't. That said web traffic on port 81 runs faster than web traffic on port 80 for me :-/
