Turn the power off to the STB.
With the power off press the down arrow and KEEP it pressed.
Turn the power back on with the down arrow STLL being pressed.
KEEP the down arrow pressed until the STB has fully booted as Gooner said.

Hey ive done the reboot thing, but no luck stilll goes to " Tune "
so does that mean they are still updating the boxes as it says its updating on the screen or the boxes are faulty

I agree, call NTL. But, if I understood correctly, there's actually two boxes, and neither of them works. It seems unlikely both boxes are faulty (possible of course, but unlikely). Why the engineer would install two boxes and not check if they work is beyond me btw.

Yeah my dad is going to phone them tomorrow, ive just checked down stairs at the main box and everything seems alright
when i try to reboot my modem it just does nothing just goes to " tune " straight away yet down stairs when i reboot it goes through the whole boot up and stuff then we got this mo3 errror i think

So the box downstairs does work? In that case the box upstairs could be faulty.

No what i meant was when i reboot the downstairs box it reboots yet my one dosnt reboot at all and another thing on the back of my box its very different to the one down stairs
my one has got " Parallel port and rs232 dce " and got a ethernet port as well yet down stairs doesnt have these
My dad said that the engineer was very late they said he be here between 12 and 6pm he came at 7:30pm and he could of done a crappy job

Okie small update here
My dad phoned NTL up today and he got an automatic voice message saying they have a abig problem with digital and its being fixed right now and digital users should turn off there digital boxes for 5minutes and that should get digital back on ( or in so many words ) ive tried that 10 times now and even left it off for 30minutes but no luck digital is still out so we are going to phone them up tonight and actualy talk with someone because this is not on been out since getting it installed on saturday

1st..your stb IS faulty and you do need to call ntl, getting stuck on TUNE, PACE, 8888 or ERROR 1 2 or 3 basicly you need a box swap.
2nd..it does not matter what the back of the boxes look like as over 10 years or so since the 1st DTV boxes came out technoligy has changed and pace have added/taken away things, all the main cons have stayed the same though.
3rd..your card ALWAYS goes in the bottom slot (unless there is only 1) and make sure you do not mix up the cards between your 2 boxes else you will have no pics......

Not necessarily an STB can freeze on TUNE or PACE because the default frequency is wrong in the engineering screens, 8888 and Err1-2 mean a fudged box in most cases (all cases for 8888)

Looks like the engineer didnt come today what a surprise there
well last saturday the engineer came at 7:30pm so maybe theres time but they said between 1pm and 6pm
so now my dad has to phone up ntl again and get them to come tomorrow lucky im off work all week to let the engineer in
