As long as people ONLY vote for who they believe will get to Westminster the status quo will never change. It would be pointless for anyone living in a "Safe" seat to bother voting against the incumbent MP - hardly democratic. Yes my (non Tory) vote may be worthless locally but on a national level it will highlight the unfair system we have.
The current voting system is totally flawed and unless people vote for who they really want to see we will continue to be governed by either the Tories or Labour based on a MINORITY of the populations choice.
Why should a third of the country decide who governs us? This is what the present system get us.

In that case, the populus who refuse to vote, then whine about the results of any vote should be compelled by law to vote. I believe that in Australia that voting is manditory, and to be honest I'm of the opinion this is a good idea....

Probably because your friends and family live in and around a certain city where they wouldn't vote Tory at gunpoint. But don't delude yourself that your poll in any way reflects national voting intentions.

No wonder voter turnout is so bloody low. True pic from my local polling station.

So in our " Democratic " country, people should be frogmarched to the polling stations?
Cannot buy that idea somehow.
If turnout is the issue they should have a final choice on the ballot paper:
" None of the Above "

I don't think he will, seems to me it was an ideological vote. Hence why several posters have talked about Liebour supports voting for a turd wearing a Liebour rosette....

Given your forum avatar this does surprise.
Thanks for explaining your reasons for voting though. I do understand local concerns trumping national ones despite disagreeing with Labour's approach to the North East, Northern Ireland, Wales, etc.
Constantly feeding areas public money rather than encouraging entrepeneurship and helping areas to stand on their own has just made them reliant on it rather than regenerating them and hacked off other parts of the country that are supplying said money through national taxes and higher council tax.
This is, of course, not the problem of the subsidised areas if they are happy with the status quo. If they are net beneficiaries of wealth redistribution it's silly to look a gift horse in the mouth. It's my conviction though that the areas would be far more prosperous however if they were weaned off reliance on the public sector through business incentives - government spending might help with existing but only the private sector will give wealth and give similar quality of life to the more affluent areas in the country. Question is two fold - do you want it, and will the government help you get it? No idea about the first one but with Labour the answer to the second is most definitely no, their solution to everything is to put people on the public payroll and throw money at it.
Just thought I'd explain myself a bit in return for your explanation.

Re: 2010 General Election: The Cable Forum Exit Poll
I would not be able to live with myself if i voted for the present shower of excreta that is labour when you consider the mess they have got us into and to be honest they will just continue to do the same. The way they treated the Gurkha's and the military was also a deciding factor so there out of the frame.
The libs sealed there fate with me over defence pure and simple, They cannot be trusted with the defence of this country its as simple as that. Plus the fact they will take us into the euro at the drop of a hat sealed it. Might vote for them when they grow up a bit more and stop playing with the security of this country.
So its conservative all the way. They have the team and the go for it outlook that will get us out of the bottomless pit of excreta that Labour have created. Also i have not time for the job tax that brown intends to hit us with.

I may not agree with the guy (or a lot of his party's policies), but I am glad he was not seriously hurt (must be my "compassion" showing... ).
BBC
Quote:
The former UK Independence Party (UKIP) leader Nigel Farage has been injured in a plane crash in Northamptonshire.
The plane carrying two people crashed at Hinton in the Hedges Airfield at Steane, near Brackley, at 0759 BST.
Mr Farage was taken to hospital in Banbury with non-life threatening injuries, and the pilot was transferred to University Hospital in Coventry.
The plane came down an hour after polling stations opened for voting in the general election.

Re the BNP'er being spat upon (which I strongly disagree with, as it is descending to their level) and the tussle that followed, Nick Griffin's comment is interesting BBC

When asked about the fight Mr Griffin told BBC London the fight was the result of a "campaign of hatred and dehumanisation against any group of people, in this case us".

i agree ,and yes in australia it is compulsory to vote in general elections but they have a 'none of the above' option aswell,i would assume that alot of the votes are postal given that some people live miles from civilization so it's hardly a case of being frogmarched
anyhoo i'm off to cast my vote for the libdems in our poling station which just happens to be in the concert room of the working mans club so i bet there's some heavy discussion going on there
