1992 General Election: Major won in excess of 14 million votes, the highest popular vote recorded by a British political party in a general election, although his actual majority was down by about 20 seats.
How many votes will Gordo get?

Re: Brown government even more unpopular than Major's
I have no idea how many Gordon Brown will get, I don't have a crystal ball, do you?
His share was 41.9% in nineteen ninety-two. Thatcher's share in ninety eighty-seven was 42.2%, so he did not enjoy a "record share" of the vote at all, did he!

Was that part of a larger vote count overall then? I thought the election was quite close so a record share would surprise me?

Re: Brown government even more unpopular than Major's
I'm not disputing those numbers, but Charlie_Bubble's assertion was that Major had won a record share of the vote. This is clearly untrue.

Re: Brown government even more unpopular than Major's
There is a difference. Record share of the vote implies he was overwhelmingly preferred to the other candidates, Record numbers could mean that but could also simply reflect more people voted in the election. Maybe in 1992 Labour got more votes than any other losing party did before?

But Damien, that kind of logic doesn't exist in some people's minds.
