The Core2 or Core2Quad series is a hell of a lot more powerful however, so, 2Ghz+ should be fine for Bluray.
Looking through that supported list of processors though, most of them are old and no longer sold as new parts. The ones that are still new cost £140+ it seems.
I'd wait for zing to advise you here.

Ok well I will go with the Core2 or Core2Quad if thats my best option, but how much GHZ do I need?

Re: I want to upgrade my computers Intel chip
if the pic that you linked to is your mobo then you should be fine with a intel q6600 as they have a fsb of 1066 which is the highest that the board, will support but you will probably need to flash to the latest bios.
i have had blu-ray rips playing on a pentium 4 3.0ghz, but it was let down by the graphics card as, it is only a old nvidia pci card.
it will be cheaper to get a good core 2 duo would probably be better dependent on what you use the pc for as it will be cheaper for you.

Re: I want to upgrade my computers Intel chip
I have watched blu ray movies on my current laptop which only has a 2.16Ghz dual core CPU. The most important factor by far is the graphics chipset.

It is a conroe Pressler (Kentsfield) I posted the picture earlier from a website but here it is again http://www.asrock.com/mb/photo/4Core...A(Enlarge).jpg
I don't have a camera so I can't show you what mine looks like, but I'm quite confident that is my motherbaord.

Ok well I use my computer for playing WoW most of the time. I have a Nvidea 9400GT Fanless Graphics card (512Mb + HDMI socket). I was thinking about the Core 2 Dou but is it enough to play bluray?

Re: I want to upgrade my computers Intel chip
Your spouting CPU core names when talking about a motherboard why?The Conroe was released July and August 06 and the Kentsfield Nov 06 and Jan 07 XE first the standard for each. The board I linked to earlier had the name Conroe Pressler with a model number underneath the board you linked to is something else entirely in fact it says Conroe Kentsfield on it no mention of Presler on the board at all although it supports it.
The actual model name for that board is 4CoreDual-vsta

Re: I want to upgrade my computers Intel chip
Would the best solution here be to download Everest and get the mobo name from that?
Not sure where to get it from as Zing normally suggests this

I just downloaded CPU-Z and found out this information about the motherboard.
Model: 4CoreDual-VSTA
Chipset: VIA PT880 Pro
My Intel Chip: Pentium D 915 (2.80GHZ)
So my options are:
Core™ Quad / Core™ 2 Extreme / Core™ 2 Duo / Pentium® XE / Pentium® D / Pentium® 4 / Celeron® D
I want to be able to watch bluray so which of these is my best option?

Re: I want to upgrade my computers Intel chip
I would be going with either of these two:
Core™ 2 Duo / Core™ 2 Quad
Quad is most likely overkill for that kind of thing though.

I agree, unless a 945 falls into your lap very cheaply as it did for me. I got mine with a working dell optiplex 745 for £60, should have cost about £260.
I would probably go for an older second hand E6 dual core, though an E2 or E4 Dual core would probably work just as good for your needs.

Re: I want to upgrade my computers Intel chip
How do check if a CPU will run Blu-Ray?
