Would I have to pay for an engineer to come out and set up my new modem, and do they know their way around computers and settings etc?

As it is a fault with your service no

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
Well it appears that the modem is working correctly as all the right lights are are on, it just doesn't connect, and I was told that my setting were wrong but I couldn't sort it out from their instructions. Will have to let it be, I suppose.

With all due respect, is there someone in the UK techie department I can speak to. I can barely understand what some of the Indian call centre staff are saying, and please don't call me a racist. I am not, but I find it very difficult to understand them when trying to do what they are telling me.

It's just whoever you're connected to when you ring. Have you tried posting on the newsgroups?

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
Sorry about the duff link hansi it was out of my folder and I didn't check it. I hope that you have now been able to set up VM Newsgroups. They are based in the UK and staffed from 8:30am right up to 10pm with a 4 hour SLA.
Thanks musicbravo for giving the correct link.
Thanks for confirming the SLA moaningmags

Re: Upgrade from 2 - 10 meg
New Virgin Modem arrived today. Upgraded from the old grey NTL box to a smaller black Virgin Media one. Lady who activated it on the phone was extremely helpful. Think I got her name wrong though, feel bad about that. Anyway, VERY happy camper! : D

Nothing to stop you sending feedback to VM on the service you had from her and asking that she be informed. I am sure when they look at your account her name will be shown as the agent who activated your modem.
