50 crap down to 3meg CAPPED

I also tried downloading the ISO from ftp://debian.virginmedia.com/mirrors...md64-DVD-1.iso using Free Download Manager and that too doesn't want to transfer faster than 10Mbps on average.

I am pretty confident that nothing else is downloading in the background. Windows update is turned off, I don't ever touch Torrents (only Giganews), and from what I can tell by looking at the data lights on the modem and router, no traffic is being transferred when I pause my download.

Really kind of sucks. I am connected to the Seven Kings exchange (or so the Supervisor who came to upgrade my connection told me).

also do VM garuntee 50MB from a VM sever?????????
as mine only hits 23-25MB i saved the enginers password for there 50MB speed test if they gauntee from there own severs then i clearly have a case????

After reading through most of the posts on this topic, it is my understanding that there is a fault with the router VM supplies?

In some cases yes the router is at fault but most of us are having problems from the service virgin a providing. I took my Router off a month ago and still have problems like many others here.

The strangest part on my problems is if I am downloading I can't do nothing else, Browising is ultra slow and 99% of the time the page times out. I was getting better speeds overall before on the 20mb with STM and was paying a lot less.

I'm just about to upgrade to the 50MB on saturday, and after reading most of the posts on here i'm a little worried its going to be a wasted venture.

After many, many calls to tech support they have admitted it is a problem on there end in my area (Hayes - Maybe other areas also?).

The problem I have been told is low snr and fec. This also explains why there are so many uncorrectable codewords (in downstream on modem page) in total and compaired to the correctable codewords.

I don't know if this is the same for other areas also though but they said it will be fixed, hopefully, by the 20th of April.

right phone them now!!!!!!! As you want a refund for loss of service up untill the 20th
also ive reinstalled my pc again and yes i hit 48MB constanst on giganews yeee harrr

I called them up but they said call back when ti is fixed so they can work out how much service was lost.

It does feel like stm, but I am giving them the benefit of the doubt and waiting until the 20th to see if it still happens after heavy downloading.

On different days it happens at different amounts downloaded, so it is a bit puzzling!

there is no STM on 50mb, its an network problem (websites should be slow or unuseable when speed drops)

it is random but i norm can make it kick in after downlaoding 5-10gb of data

allso the router only gives me 500KB/s-1MB/s less bandwith when useing the router with news servers that is (i need to plug it back in as i need the Upnp) i going to plug it back in now and turn off SPI and Secure nat to open, to see if that keeps speed up

So it is my understanding that it is a network issue when the speeds drop? Its just had to except that after a period of downloading a certain amount the speed does slow down, its consistent with the STM system. This saturday i will be getting the 50MB installed, and if it doesnt meet my expectations, ill have it removed the following week.

if it was STM it would stay at low speed or 5hrs it only lasts for around 5-20 mins and happens every 1 hr or so when downloading alot or uploading alot and there is Masive packet loss STM does not make Packet loss (and Upload is compleaty unafected when download is going at slow speed) packet loss means data is been sent to me but is getting Loss along the way to me or any 50mb user when this problem kicks in

i going to get it fixed one way or another even if thay give me some info (i work with computers and networks so what is going on with 50mb should not be happening unless UBR or its out side of virgins network)

i tried the usenet test on mine as my 50mb has been fluctuating the last day or two- surely the usenet test is flawed?

Yes the file is too small, it was downloaded before the rate shaping kicked in so you got all the bandwidth available.

I did notice the cable modem 50Mb the up and down blue flashes light is blinking fast when downloading ful 50Mb then the light on the modem went stop for few seconds and downloading again, then stop and downloading again, it like blinking then pause, then blinking, then pause, then blinking.

Anyones had the same issues ?

If you are getting your speeds then do not worry about the lights on the modem.

tryed a download today hit 47MB for 5seconds then dropped liked a BRICK to a 3.4meg crap im getting BEEEEP now
