Moving Virgin Box - advice on extending cable

Hi

Apologies for what is probably a standard question, but I have searched the internet and found the information a little confusing (the fact the so many cable types have been discontinued is one factor).

I am redecorating and plan to move my Virgin box to the other side of the room. I therefore require new cable. Key points:

Joined Virgin around 6 months ago
I want to buy decent quality cable
I don’t want to extend, but rather replace the cable (see above )
I will pass the cable through the under floor cavity which is very damp so I require something resistant to moisture (I can pin to the underside of the floorboards if advised)
I would prefer to buy the whole thing made up, rather than the component parts if possible (I get the impression the best connectors require specific and costly tools….).

I thought I needed WF100 and standard F connectors, but after looking at my existing cable (and further research) I’m less sure.

My existing cable (originally installed by engineer) is marked as “UTFC-T100 8185”. The existing connectors are marked as “PPC EX59 08” (they screw in to the box and the adapter). The box is a “Samsung SMT-2110C”.

Please let me know if you need anything more

Re: Moving Virgin Box - advice on extending cable

It's my virgin media TV box (nothing required for router, that is staying where it is).
Thanks - I've been there. The issue is there are several different types (grades) of cable and connectors (some that require different equipment). I also understand some cables are not well suited to damp conditions. So I'm after advice on specifics if you are able to help me on that

I am not an install engineer but I would get electrical conduit and run it under the floor as it can be fitted with its own brackets and can be glued together and has elbow joints plus it enables the cable to be replaced and kept dry much better than pinning it under the floorboards.

Re: Moving Virgin Box - advice on extending cable

I did exactly what you are wanting to do by buying an extension from either Maplin or B&Q, I can't remember which, and fixing it to the underside of the beams under the floor. If the new run isn't too long you'll probably be OK without any attenuation issues. I was. It is worth, however, testing it out by connecting up the new length of cable to check for signal quality BEFORE you go pulling up floor boards.
Had a tech out to a knackered STB some years later who checked the signal etc with the extension and said it was OK by him too.
