Honestly though, virgin need to step up and tell us whats going on with the old 10mb subscribers? They need to work out the new stm system for the two tiers before they upgrade, because it just wont be fair having two people on 10mb paying a diff price.

Thats what they said they will do as this isnt going to happen till May then I wouldnt worry they will announce the STM limits

Re: Virgin Media Boosts Millions of Broadband Connections

I agree brilliant news.

It's a 'free' upgrade but necessary in order to keep ahead of the market and the 'free' offerings from SKY and carephonewarehouse.

It's great if you were paying for the 2MB account and get upgraded to 10Mb, but not for those who are paying for 10Mb and not getting much more for their money.

Re: Virgin Media Boosts Millions of Broadband Connections

you are still getting exactly what you paid for, and no less.

you will also have better terms, and traffic management etc

Re: Virgin Media Boosts Millions of Broadband Connections

am I right in thinging some people are paying £18 a month for 2mb and will soon get upgraded to 10mb and there are others paying £20 a month for the 10meg product and wont be getting anything more for their extra couple of pounds except better traffic management terms?

Re: Virgin Media Boosts Millions of Broadband Connections

Unsurprisingly is how pricing works. You pay more for more.

BB L customers also get PC Guard total which BB M customers don't get

Also there may be some differences to 'My Stuff' the replacement for Broadband Extras.

P.S before anyone starts downgrading, I would wait until they detail the new STM for BB M

Re: Virgin Media Boosts Millions of Broadband Connections

Pretty poor return on the extra amount though - PC Guard which isn't that reliable, and extras. Why not do away with those and just make them chargeable as extras across the board then?

Re: Virgin Media Boosts Millions of Broadband Connections

i am actually paying £35+ as i have tv, phone, V+ etc, so they are just sweetening my deal a bit, and giving a bit more for my money.

i have missed out on many of the new deals for new customers

its nice for loyal customers (10 years) to get the occasional upgrade

Re: Virgin Media Boosts Millions of Broadband Connections

I'm paying £25 for my 10Mb was told only £20 if you take phone line which I don't want. I think that is expensive especially with STM caps. That would take it up to £31 with phone line. If I want to upgrade to 20Mb will cost me £37. I think that is very expensive when BE do 24Mb for £17.50 with a much faster upload and only 3 month contract. How can VM justify a extra £20 for less. Rip Off. Shame my BT line to far from exchange for full BE service so I will just have to put up with Virgin media and get shafted by there monopoly and wierd pricing structure.

Re: Virgin Media Boosts Millions of Broadband Connections

BB L with a phone is £25 - so £14 for BB L

BB XL is £31 with phone - so £20 for BB XL

With Be you need a BT line, so the true cost would be £28.50 - somewhere in between the two

BTW how can you say 'BE do a faster connection for less' when you could be paying Be £17.50 for a 10Mbit connection or less because of the distance??! Surely that is more money for less?

This is how Telewest has dealt with the standard prices of internet packages, however since it bacame Virgin Media, it slowed down and we havent seen any changes until now, I have been expecting this though.

Someday we will be getting 100MB for £18 per month, I might have died of old age by then lol

Good news for 2Mb customers. Will have to wait and see what the difference is between my existing 10Mb and the 2Mb upgrades.
