Did they say "do you want 20Mb broadband" though ?

I bet they said something along the lines, "if you want to download movies" you will need 20Mb broadband ?

After all the VM website says you can download a movie in xxx min ?

So where are all these movies you can download in xx min I want to know ?

I was going to say similar from the other side of the pond. Netflix ondemand option streams high enough quality that I can watch it on my tellybox (42in) so that must be pretty bandwidth heavy.
iTunes HD video files to stream to your appleTV and watch are also huge.
ABC.com and all the others with their HD recap of episodes.

The business model evolved into Netflix or LoveFilm.

The BBC iPlayer site has more than one way of viewing stuff: downloading higher quality stuff to watch at your leisure, or streaming stuff to watch there & then as it downloads.

You mentioned downloading stuff which you can keep for 30 days - it's not the same as streaming, and the downloaded content has DRM (hence the time limit).

Re: You're all 20Mb pirates

i see... i don't download the content i just stream it online its easier then having to wait for it to download then watch it so i just press play and watch it once or twice while its still on the bbc web site, I rather watch it on pc then on the tv so i dont have to sit through the adverts, i only need to watch it once or twice at most and i am happy. I guess some remove the 30 day limit and share the file?

Of course people share illegal files but not everyone uses their fast connection for "illegal downloading"

I heard on the news today BT are going to put millions into rolling out fibre to lots of homes with faster connections

Thats because the gov told them they have too Oh no, not more digging well Ive seen them re-thread fiber optics, using the old cable to pull it through. But its going to take years.

So we will all switch back to BT for the 100Mb they will be giving us, for £5 month, with no downlod limits except;

12:00 - 1:00 1G limit
1:00 - 2:00 500K
2:00 - 3:00 200K

4:00PM to 9:00PM 8TB (Just to beat VM)

And if they see you downloading legal movies, they will charge you 10 pence per movie (Free with Option 8) by this time DVD's will be £1 each, and come with a "fair use" policy which you have to sign when you buy them.

DRM its a joke, huh you can just point your cam at the PC then it will be
thelatest-movie.divy.pc.cam.mp5

No, only 20Mb pirates like I said

Same here, I rang up about something else, and they asked if I want a free upgrade, and the other day I rang, and they asked if I wanted a Free Netgear WIFI, they sent it, but I already have a 108Mb, this one is only 54Mb, well it was free, might come in handy one day.
