I've seen it and had a go at those giving the abuse, and met a torrent of "They should have refused to go" and "It's illegal, they should be done for war crimes" etc.
Thankfully most people (outside government anyway) do appreciate members of the armed forces, whether they agree with the war or not.

Incorrect - you will find a high number of so called "british muslims" in the army and working for the government - I should I know I do work for HOIT (Home Office IT)
My point was, we should allow our armed forces to wear their unfiform with pride and that the british public are generally thick as muck anywho! Its just like shouting at the person on the phone or at the desk, it's not their fault the company messed something up is but yet we take it out on them, the same goes for the RAF & others. It's not the peoples fault, yet our government - the fact is, they are there, where ever there maybe, so we as a nation should stand by them.

For their safety??? WHAT THE CHUFF IS THAT ABOUT!
My point being, if the "british" public being as ignorant and as rude as they are would show a little respect - then we wouldn't have any issues..
Anywho - I would expect the people to do the spitting is the indians / polish etc.

Its self explanatory if you ask me.
Quote:
Airmen have been told not to leave an RAF base in uniform to avoid being verbally abused by civilians.
|
This is obviously a threat to their safety, hence if they go out of the base without their uniform, no one will know who they are. Its no good saying "if the "british" public being as ignorant and as rude as they are would show a little respect - then we wouldn't have any issues" as we do have issues because the British public/Human race are ignorant and rude.

if you had to depend on the army then there would be problems in *this* country not another one. the reason the some people hate people in the army is because they are being sent to other countries to sort other countries out when they should really be over here sorting this one out. comparing ww1/2 to say iraq/afghanistan is ludicrous, iraq/afghanistan barely had armies to defend themselves let alone attack us so why do we get involved in *their* business?

The reason for not having them wear military clothing is so that they do not get abuse (verbal or physical) from dimwits while out in public.
You and I, and thankfully most people, understand that members of the armed forces are doing a job, they aren't responsible for the decision to go to war, and therefore if we have a disagreement with the war, the last people we'd have a go at would be those serving in the armed forces.
Unfortunately, there are a few people who can't work that one out, and are willing to not only spout verbal abuse at servicemen, but also physical abuse.
Consiquenty, it is prudent of their commanding officer to protect them from such abuse, wouldn't you agree?

Re: Yet another bunch of *******
Actually the abuse probably has nothing to do with Iraq and everything to do with local lads who aren't earning as much as the servicemen and women and being jealous. It's been a regular feature down here on the South Coast for years. In fact most Naval personnel have regularly been wearing civvies off duty for that reason.
Though of course during the 'troubles' service personnel were encouraged to be out of uniform off duty for security reasons..

I'm still lost as I didn't mention Muslims or Sikhs...
My reference to the government was a subtle (probably too subtle given the time of night!) dig at the government's poor treatment of armed service personel, suggesting that they don't appreciate them, after all, if you appreciate someone and are in the position to demonstrate that, you'd do whatever you could, such as giving them the right type of ammo, enough armoured vehicles and air support, body armour and NVGs etc.

You mean Muslims with those types of names right
I don't understand how it relates to the poor treatment or the lack of respect the army gets....?
