Indeed I lived in London for 3 years of my life so how could I not have concerns about who runs and administers this great and oldest of living cities.

How you regard the matter is entirely up to you I was merely stating my attitude towards the up coming election and London.

I forget who said 'They who are tired of London are tired of Life'.I think it was Johnson but I won't swear to it.

Re: Red Ken's Head of Equalities & Policing under the spotlight?

My point was for most of us while we may be impacted by whatever the mayor of london does we cannot do anything about it. I watched a program can't remember what it was called where he is setting up seperate embassy's for the city of london i think the guy is going way beyond what he should be doing. As someone that does not live in london (i go there quite a lot over the year) i cannot alter who or what gets elected. I think if the people of london could actually choose their condidates i am not sure ken livingstone would be in the election in the first place. he might be a hero to some for what happened in the 80's but is that really a reason to elect the guy now seems mad to me.

Well the people of London have the choice they have because that's how many candidates are standing which is the same for us all when a general election takes place. We get the candidates we do and if there is no real choice then we are free to put up our own candidate(provided we can find the deposit).

Even if I can't vote I'm still interested in what happens.I can't have any impact on a lot of things but I can still show an interest.

Perhaps if in all future threads about the elections for the post of Mayor of London should have the info in the title so those who aren't interested can avoid them?

Quite - all sorts of things interest all sorts of people......

Really, nobody's suggesting everyone should be interested in Red Ken's antics and all those who aren't needn't contribute to a thread on the subject. Equally, I think most of those like me who are interested in what he and his kind get up too also realise there is life north of Watford.

Agree but, to be fair, I think some of the off peak deals are pretty good. Commuters however get well and truly stuffed paying top dollar for some of the worst 'service'. Of course OAP's and can kids travel FOC but that's another story ......

yeah, but they only get cheap deals because the rest of us pay through the nose to be treated worse than cattle.

Personally I think they should ban people on cheap day travel cards travelling between 5 and 7 Mon to Fri.

Doing that is likely to reduce revenue and force higher prices on commuters since it is they who are the captive audience not the off-peak traveller.

My weekly zone 1 to 3 travel card costs 28.40 letting me travel anywhere within London all week which I dont think is so expensive. However the other day I forgot my Oyster card and had to take a bus and the 2 pound fare did shock me.

I think its not so cheap if you have to make one off trips as such where you dont have a travel card/oyster, but for where you can buy oyster/weekly travel cards, its not so bad.
