It makes climbing quite a lot more difficult, but cycling one handed should be ok

If I remember correctly mine cost more than that and it is only a neon, which I mainly use to help keep my wrists supple, but it also seems to do a good job of toning up the forearm muscles, too

I'm not 100% sure either, but that link earlier points to the Signature Series White Neon Powerball, and only RPM Sports, (www.powerballs.com), produce such a Powerball. So the lifetime parts replacement warranty should still apply.

It certainly does appear to be a genuine RPM product, but I was basing my comment on the reply I got from them about whether 1 bought from Play would be covered.

I can confirm that Play.com is one of our resellers and therefore your Powerball will be fully covered by our lifetime warranty.

This seems to imply that if a genuine product was bought from somewhere that isn't an official reseller then it wouldn't be covered.

She's not that old [though she looks younger than she is]. As for frailty... She broke her hip a few years ago when she trod on something that slipped out from under her foot & as a result fell backwards. She had to have surgery last year on 1 of her hands [I forget which] when the dog she had at the time [a LARGE greyhound] suddenly tried to bolt after a cat and she wasn't holding the lead quite right. I don't think her coordination is too bad, as she still does beading with some very small & fiddly beads, & I don't think she'd be able to do that if she was "all fingers & thumbs".

I think I'll show her how it's done, & then as per you suggestion get her to try it very gently - just enough to keep it going, & stop if she has any discomfort.

Worth a try but I'm a bit concerned about the hand she had surgery on.....be very careful....

Alien, with your mum just make sure she uses it at relatively low speeds for 5-10 minutes at a time. People don't get the technique straight off so it'll take a bit of practice to get the thing going and more importantly keeping it going. It's a proven exercise tool that has helped an array of conditions if used correctly, so your mother should benefit from it. I myself have now much more toned arms and stronger wrist and finger joints from using the ball for an hour twice a week.

I can't comment on your mum, but in my mum's case I agree with Rammy's cautiousness, given the probs she's had. For example, last Sunday when I was round there, she was telling me that she could barely move her wrist in the morning, but after wearing her splint/support thingy all day, in the evening she was able to move it normally.

Well, as I mentioned in the Happy Thought thread, mine arrived this morning. It's a rather weird feeling, but doesn't take too long to get the hang of it & keep it going. My arms ache a bit, due to it being rather addictive. The thing I'm not so keen on is how bright the lights are, but it's not really a problem to just shut my eyes, as you don't need to look at it once it's spinning - the important thing once it's spinning is the way it feels. It's kind of like swirling water round in a bucket by actually moving the bucket, rather than using something to stir it. Once it gains momentum, if you stop putting so much effort into moving the bucket, you can feel the water trying to move the bucket. The feeling you get when trying to keep a Powerball going is rather similar to that.
