Oh and I take it you have checked your PC for virus, trojan, spyware etc problems? What is your current software and hardware setup?

Try reading para 3
""Broadband Back-Up Service" means our metered Internet access service, provided in conjunction with the Broadband Service which you may use to access your Virgin Media account when away from home. This is an optional feature and is charged on a pence per minute basis using a dial-up number. For the avoidance of doubt, using the Broadband Back-Up Service does not constitute changing your package to the PAYG service."

Re: £50 to disconect
Something is definitely up with your connection, can you do a few tests to try and narrow this down..... (these are both american servers...)
Go to command prompt then;
"Ping 208.100.14.229"
and
"tracert 208.100.14.229"
You can select all and copy from cmd to post your results.
Once you have done this i suggest loading up windows in "safemode with networking", (F8 on startup) . Repeat these tests and post both results.

The broadband virgin.net service has always had the following term:

When you join Virgin Media, you won't have to sign a 12 month contract or pay an activation or set-up fee. However, if you wish to leave our broadband service, you'll need to give us 30 days notice. Please note that we reserve the right to apply a £50 cancellation charge if your service is cancelled within 12 months of activation. Unfortunately, this charge is necessary due to the cost of activating your broadband service.

It is still on http://www.virginmedia.com/

Re: £50 to disconect
Its probably due to the fact that you didn't pay a connection fee. If you cancel within 12 months I believe this is then payable

Re: £50 to disconect
If the service isn't upto scratch write to them stating this and ask them for a MAC. You should get it within 5 days. Also state that becasue the service isn't fit for it's purpose you will not be paying any admin/cancelation fees.
I'm 99% sure they have to give you a MAC now even if they want you to pay an admin fee any you haven't.

The provider cannot withhold a MAC for the purposes of debt collection, or for contractual reasons

This way at least you can get your BB moved then fight them over the £50
If they want to chase you for it then explain to them that thet are not entitled to it as the service didn't work properly.
This site give you good info:
http://www.dti.gov.uk/consumers/fact...page24702.html
Also if you're not getting anywhere with them ring their arbitrators (the info in on their site somewhere) and get them to take the case on.

You're not forced to pay anything like that if the service is rubbish - and for £50 I'd like to see them take it to court.
