Hmm, not like you to respond to that!

Sugar coat it any way you like, Arsenal won nothing last year. United won a tournament (albeit not the most successful one) and came runners-up in the Prem (which if you think about it would have meant we'd have won the league that the russian not bought it) which might not be up to our traditional standards but still meant we had a better season than Arsenal - and let's face it that's all that counts!

I am really not sure what I'd prefer, runner up in the league or runner up in European Cup, one means you are consistent the other has a lot of prestige, it's a tricky one.

As for the league cup, I am just not going to talk about it anymore, it's a nonsense of a trophy, there is a reason why you played the mighty Wigan in the final, it's because they are the type of team the tournament is designed for, hence the quarter final the other night, Arsenal reserves against Liverpool reserves, they still treat it with the same amount of respect as you used to

Euro Cup runners up are forgotten within weeks. Premiership runners-up will be referred to throughout the following season. The Prem is regarded by many as the greatest league in the world, so comparing that to the Euro Cup, I know which one I'd prefer.

No-one is going to suggest it's anywhere near the prestige of the FA Cup, but it meant we beat all the other teams involved to the cup. Other certain teams won nothing at all.

Neill has insisted his move was not dictated by money. The Australian said: "It wasn't about cash - that didn't come into it. It was about being wanted. West Ham were knocking down the door to get me whereas Liverpool made a take or leave it offer.

"People have said I put money before medals and how could I make a sideways move like this and not go to a club like Liverpool, who are always in the hunt for trophies and so much prestige.

"West Ham moved heaven and earth to sign me while Liverpool gave me the impression that I might not even get a game if I went there.

It sounds reasonable to me, although £60000 a week is a hell of a lot of money for him, looks like Kepo Blanco is about to sign as well, anyone know anything about him?

Surely it would be the same in the Champions League, providing you qualified the next year, they would refer to you as last seasons runners up to, you would definitely get more cash from Europe as well because it's a bonus and you could also point to the standard of opponent, you are hardly likely to face teams like Watford in the group stages or beyond

I suppose it's how you see it but I don't recall many commentators referring to the previous season's Euro runners up

Wasn't he wanted at Blackburn? I thought he was a first team player and club captain at a side considerably higher than West Ham in the league.

He hasn't really played much for Sevilla this season, he's been behind Kanoute and Fabiano in the first team. It's a suprising one as West ham seem to have a lot of strikers, i would have thought if they were going to bring another one in it would be someone with experience of fighting relegation, not a 23 year old Spaniard who has been sitting on the bench all season.

As I said I am prepared to give him the benefit of the doubt, seeing as it's been two seasons since we had a right back (Mears and Paintsall aside), although I did think it strange that he chose us over Liverpool, mainly as I remember him saying that he supported them as a child so

Also when you look at the two clubs, they are poles apart, yes we might be struggling at the moment but I don't remember Blackburn having two 10 million plus bids turned down in this window

Still, at least you'll have something to remember this season with
Na I think not, we beat United yesterday comfortably as we played to the whistle not for a draw.

And of course United have something to remember this season by, remind again what Cup are they still in, oh yeah the FA Cup until Pompey put an end to that.

And unlike the glory hunting United Fans yes I did see the game as I was there at the Emirates.

If you have bothered to read any report of the match you will see comments made by Ferguson.
Well sorry, don’t tar us all with the same lame brush and if the documentaries were full of rubbish then they have no reason not to front up to the reporters if they have nothing to hide.

Although Sir Alex is probably too busy joining the fight to save Burberry in Wales as his Chav squad will have nothing fashionable to dress in.

No, Liverpool beat the Champions on Saturday - seems there's only one team that can win away at Anfield this season. Actually, make that two, Arsenal and Arsenal Reserves.

If by some miracle Man Utd had actually won the league recently, you'd be calling them 'champions' all season, United Boys. Give Chelsea that respect (and no more, they don't deserve it and are going to implode - what a shame they gave us Gallas and £5m for that **** Ashley Cole, who I note failed to do his job and close down that other **** Pennant on Saturday. Kerching, chalk another one up for Arsene).

As for overpriced players, our back four cost
Clichy - £250,000
Senderos - £1.3m
Toure - probably about £250,000
Eboue - £1.3m

Seems a pretty good deal, really, compared with Oops-There-Goes-The-Ball Rio Ferdinand.

fair play to Arsenal they didn't give up and we surrendered the ball to them too easily all the time

says alot about us that we prefer 35 yo Larsson to Saha up front and that great signing Park couldn't even make the bench
Love the park comment and exactly my point they played to the whistle and deserved what they got a win not trying to cling on to the point.

Again don’t tar us all with the same brush as I am in and out of thread win or lose, granted not so often recently as we have not lost since December.

League cup is meaningless and as you say you get nothing for coming second so nothing to write home about there.

Ooh the bitterness is strong in you.

As you say again a nothing cup and coming second gets you nowhere.

Last season proves nothing as you lost more home games but were better away from home and scraped two more draws at home.

Not many teams can say we put an end to Liverpools home games at Anfield with the first team and the reserve team and imposed their heaviest defeat for over 77 years.

Re: Football Talk 2006/2007 Season

When was the last time Arsenal beat United in a Premiership game prior to this season?

I will tell you and save you the bother, 2001 - 2002 season.
Five seasons eh !! ....... the pent up frustration is understandable

Not many teams can say they put an end to Arsenal's 50-odd run of singing "we are unbeatable" each week.

Well yes, you've got a point - the model-professionals of Arsenal must have felt very hard done by over that.

I cannot believe Arsenal fans complain about diving still. I know he doesn't play for you anymore but this is the type of stuff you get from Arsenal players - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Pz_mgHPvuBU
