Maybe, but these phones aren't designed for their cable network. I believe they're made by a third party and are regular phones for BT networks, just they have NTL's logo slapped on them and I assume it gives NTL some income. They're available in regions without cable.

Wouldn't touch them with a bargepole though, like anything with their name on it

correct...but they do work on the ntl line for caller disp

Looks like you can take your number with you so I think it may be a trip back to BT - the prices look more reasonable now as well.
