Leaving ntl

Well folks I will be like a bat out of hthell as I am leaving ntl as a company - to pastures new

I have been with them for 7 years and have been though many many changes of procedures, process - ways of doing things - had some v good team leaders and some bad team leaders - raised ideas to the company to save it money and never had a word of thanks - I have dont things for the company ie cimpiled an internal phone book and spreadsheet of usefull info and this was taken and superceded into a company wide database - not a word of thanks or appreciateion

Been told on the phone what to do with a set top box, Been called all the swearwords under the sun on the phone - and still worked hard for the company - We are not phone monkeys but actauly do a multi skilled job - If you think that we do customer service, billing, faults, broadband, cable modem, even what is on sky sports 2 next tuesday - and you shold know the answser because that is what you are there for - It is not an easy job

Funnies

Csa
What windows have you got on your pc sir
Cust - double glasing

Cust
The cable tele is not working
Csa
Is the stb switched on
Cust - No
Csa
Is the stb plugged into the wall
Cust - No
Csa
Please plug the stb into the wall and turn the stb on at the front of the box
Cust - Oh it works how did you do that

I ask you

This seems to be a regular theme within NTL, there a lot of bright & motivated people working for the company but the management are still taking things for granted and it makes the staff think "why do I bother?".

I make an effort to be polite to CS reps, as I know that for the most part they're doing their best in a bad situation created through no fault of their own. The competence and ability of the guys at the top I seriously question, but I respect the CS guys for picking up the crap levelled at them through bad policy/practice/company structure.

Re: Leaving ntl

One thinks ntl should pay more attention to the staff it still has instead of letting them walk away.

It's discrasefull management practice. Training is a heavy burdon on most tecnology orientated companies, ntl dont want to be training new ones to boot.

Maybe its a new management stratergy - "Disposable Training" get em trained up push em away to AOL, Freeserve, etc... New slogan "NTL: training our competitiors staff!"

I wouldn't be ashamed to work as an ntl tech or possibly a CS rep but would be ashamed to be a team manager or human resources menager. Their employee turnover is excessive, how can one company loose so many people so quickly??

It's not only NTL who are like that, happens a lot, both my previous employer and my current.

In my current place, I worked with a collegue to build the new website.
Sometime after it was all done, the big chief man congratulated and gave all the credit to completely the wrong people, one of the people he mentioned only joined the company AFTER the site was done!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Anyway, good luck with your new venture, hope it works out for you.

Great to see the boss of your company is in touch with his employees.

Thanks for the encouragement - It is not easy sitting on the phone day in day out - with different sets of processes for each area - and 6 screens and databases up and runnig to cater for all the quiries that you have to do - even the banarl and boring - even what is on sky sports 2 next tuesday and you are expected to know and if you dont you are accused of all sorts -

I have just heard and this is on another thread - that another 400 jobs are to go in the old Brighton call centre - faults - There have been other redundancies in Manchester also - subtlely and quietly job shedding 1 here and 2 there - not nice

I once had a team leader who had a vendetta against me - she tried each and every way to get rid of me - She was in cahoots with HR and they sided with her - She was investigated for paying off her account with a stolen credit card and using other peoples log in to do this - therefore implicating other people in her crime - She resigned before she was sacked - They then passed a mail round the department saying that she was a good team leader and she would be sorely missed

I read the mail and felt that I had been betrayed - I belive 30 peices of silver is the asking price - I felt very bitter towards the tl and also the company because they did not even come halfway to apologising for her behaviour towards me and the way I had been treated

Not good = When I raised it I was told in no uncertain terms to shut up and not say anything - That if I spoke I would be seen as a trouble maker

I could blow the lid in some ways

Re: Leaving ntl

Ok blowing the lid

There was a team leader who had long legs and a short skirt - you know the type - cross your legs on one of those chairs and half the men in the call centre have a heart attack - She draped herself over her male manager who was married with a family and she got herself promoted - as soon as she went into the other department the dress sense become very conservative with hemlines round the ankles - co-incidence or not - She was the worst performing team leader in the building

There was a CSA who slept with her manager to get promoted - she got the job

There was a Team leader who had bits in the right places - tight backside and large wotsits - There were rumours that she was having an affair with her male manager - your place or mine - She was embazzling the company by crediting her own account and the accounts of her families and friends - She was also using the log in and password of her team - as she had passed a mail round saying that it was a company requirement that the team leader knew the passwords of her team

She was discovered when the boyfriend of one of the team was good friends with a current team leader of 6 years experiece and one of the best team leaders in the company - The BF asked the team leader why the team member had been asked for her log in and password - The team leader smelled a rat - did his homework and discovered the secrect - not just the embazzlement but the rumoured affair

The team leaders manager asked the team leader to discipline a member of the team - his team and he advised not - that the best way was to put the person on a improvement plan - the manager also gave confidential and company information about the person to the team leader - The team leader rightly or wrongly told the team member what the information was and the maager suspended the team leader

The official line was that the team leader was on sick leave and then he resigned - The unofficial reason and possibly the truest reason was the team leader was dismissed

As in Yes Minister - the first rule of governemt - Dont belive anything untill its been offfically denied

QED
