Question NTL STB With Ether to USB adapter What Router?

I am trying to connect my Samsung NTL Set top Box to a wireless router so I can get the net on my PC and Laptop.

I have to use a Ether to USB converter to be able to get a connection to the net.

When Ether is plugged strait in to PC I get a Message saying Low connectivity or no connectivity. So NTL supplied me with the adapter witch sorts this.

Is there a Router that will take a USB connection from the STB

I have tried Linksys Routers and others with Ether connections But there is no power it seams without the USB adapter to power the connection.

is there Anyone who has fathomed this problem

No, there isn't such a thing as a USB router. The fact that you are getting the message on your PC suggests to me there is a problem between your PC and the router . If the problem was between the STB and the router, you wouldn't get that message. You would just not be able to access the internet.

Assuming NTL supplied you with a USB - Ethernet adapter, try that plugged in between the PC and the router.

One thing that may cause that message is if you are plugging in the wrong port on the router. The port marked WAN or Internet (and usually on it's own) should be plugged into the STB. One of the ports marked LAN (and in a group) should be plugged into the PC.

Finally, what is the make and model of the router? Some are designed specifically for ADSL and will not work with NTL cable.

Last one I tried Was the linksys WRT54Gs Wireless Broadband router.

With ether net cable in WAN port of the router and the LAN cable connected to my PC I could get a path to the router. My laptop saw a wireless Network and could join, But Internet connection dead as a dow dow.

Could be a dodgy cable between the router and STB.

Re: NTL STB With Ether to USB adapter What Router?

Well, there are three options: Faulty WAN socket on the router, faulty cable and faulty ethernet socket on the STB. Try changing the cable first. If that doesn't work, then see if you can borrow another router, or at least a device with a known working ethernet socket (such as a laptop). Plug this into the STB and see what happens.

If that doesn't work, you probably have an STB with a bad Ethernet socket, and will need to call NTL.
